Summer Lovin'

I can't believe summer is almost over. I have no idea where the time went. SERIOUSLY! Where did it go? I feel like I haven't been home since..... May? So, where have I been?

Well, in May and June I took some graduate school classes that almost put me to sleep.

I also worked REALLY hard at my job preparing for a conference I went to in July. I was in charge of some super important stuff and it was pretty hectic and stressful. I was there for eight days. It doesn't sound like a long time, but trust me, it was. On the plus side, my BFF from high school happens to be living in said town where the conference is held so we got to hang out at some pretty sweet local bars where they only charge $1.50 for beers. So I spent a lot of the time looking like our friend Lindsey.

I also took a few trips to visit my better half and I also went on a fun trip to New York City, too. Where I spent way too much money. And before I knew it, it was the end of August. So that's my summer in a nutshell.

As for Lauren, she graduated from Law School (YAY!) and went to the beach. So everyone congratulate her, or else.

What did you guys do? Keep it clean, this is a family blog.

Best MJ Tribute Thus Far

In the two weeks since his sudden passing, there have been countless amateur and professional Michael Jackson tributes released. I'm not even going to attempt to list them all - I'm sure you can find them if you're interested. However, I did want to share this one from Sweden, because it is both poignant and awesome in terms of overall scope. I know that if something like this was even attempted in such a public area in the US, the cops would shut it down in about .05 seconds.

RIP, Michael Jackson

When I first started receiving texts last night about Michael Jackson's death, I wrote them off as one of those internet rumors that spread like wildfire (i.e. Urkel died, Screech died, etc.), but then when I heard people on the radio confirming it during my drive home from work, I was simply stunned.

I never got to see him live, and now I never will, which I deeply regret. I just hope his children are placed in a home where they receive the love and support they need right now.

There's not much else to say. I was trying to think of my favorite Michael song, but there's just too many. This one seems appropriate, given the media insanity surrounding his family right now.

Self-Inflicted Groundhog Day

Tonight is a pivotal game in the Stanley Cup finals between the reigning (and lame) champions Detriot Red Wings, and Sooperserial's beloved hometown Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins are down 2-1 in a best-of-seven series, and tonight's game at home is essentially a must-win situation.

In addition to praying for at least 5 minutes before the game (not kidding), I had the idea of basically Groundhog Day-ing (yes, it's a verb now) myself and trying to do exactly everything that I did on Tuesday, when we won game #3 at home. So, what do I need to do in order to repeat Tuesday?

-Go to work: Check
-Write TPS-esque reports for 8 hours: Check
-Drive to school after work: Check
-Park in the same spot in the same parking garage: Check
-Go to class for 2.5 hours: Check
-Stop at Qdoba for dinner............. RECORD SCRATCH

Hold the phone. Qdoba?! The SAME place where Penguins coach Dan Bylsma eats a lucky burrito before every game? My stop on Tuesday was completely random. This was seriously my train of thought: "I have 25 minutes left in the garage before my parking fee goes up. I might as well stop somewhere for dinner, because I hate all of the food I have at home." I was going to go to McDonald's (classy, I know), until I saw a line almost out the door, so Qdoba it was. Little did I know that I was contributing to some serious Stanley Cup magic.

So you'd better believe, that even if I don't have time left in the garage today, I will be stopping at that exact Qdoba and ordering the exact same meal as Tuesday. And when I get home tonight, I will sit in the exact same spot on the couch and wear the exact same outfit I wore while watching Tuesday's game.

And since it can't hurt, here is a tribute to the all-around awesome Evgeni Malkin. Russian dance breakdown!

IDOL FINALE!

It all comes down to this. Who will it be? Adam the crazy, fearless rocker or Kris the warm, friendly musician?

They are both talented (I know I said Adam was talented), but only one can win. Now, if you are a true American Idol fan like I am, then you probably check dialidol.com like yours truly! If that’s the case, then you know they are predicting Kris to win tonight, and they have been correct on their predictions for the last four seasons. Some say this would be an American Idol upset, I say it would be cool. In any case we will know for sure in two hours! Enjoy the following review I typed up as I was watching the show, and remember - it’s all just my opinion, nothing serious. And once again, thanks for reading!

I want to start by stating that I believe the group numbers are lame. I have always thought that, and they always look like the most awkward part for the contestants. That is probably why I have never been to an American Idols Live Tour, and I am a pretty big American Idol fan. The cheesy dance moves and terrible song arrangements are just too much for me to handle. I really can’t stand them. That being said, I did not think highly of the group numbers tonight. The only decent one was the one with Carlos Santa. It's also not good when the contestants sound better than the artist they bring on to do the group numbers. (Like Fergie for example, she sounded terrible when she sang by herself). Rod Stewart sounded good, but is it me or does he look really, really old?

And what is with these "Golden Idol" awards? I thought they would be over these and not be doing them this year. I guess I was wrong. I knew Bikini girl would be on here again. I though it was hilarious what Kara did to her and that she pulled off her dress. That was by far the funniest Idol moment for me. Of course I knew Norman would make another appearance and we all knew Tatiana would be back. All three awards were funny, but really not necessary and could have eliminated about 45 minutes of a two-hour finally.

There were some really good duets tonight and there were some not so great ones. Starting the duets off was Queen Latifah and Lil Rounds, and they sounded great. It was actually the first time I liked Lil Rounds and the first time she actually looked comfortable on stage.

Another great duet was Kris and Keith. I mean Kris had to be freaking out about that one. Come on, Keith Urban is an amazing guitar player and for Kris (who is also a guitar player) to play with him, that had to be an amazing experience.

I thought having her duet be with Cyndi Lauper cheated Allison. I just would not have paired those two together. Unexpectedly, it sounded pretty good.

Danny’s duet with Lionel Ritchie was awesome. I (and my boyfriend as well) thought that Danny sounded amazing. We both agree that he was voted off to early and my boyfriend actually picked him as the winner from his audition. I hope Danny gets a record deal!

And, of course, Adam's duet was too over dramatic for my tasting. I was shocked by what he was wearing. I give him props for not caring what others think about him. I wish I were fearless like that. I am also shocked that KISS was on American Idol. It’s amazing how much this show has changed since it first started. And I just want to note that it was totally random to see Steve Martin play an instrument seriously.

Which brings me to my final conclusion that America voted two totally different contestants into the season finally. They are both extremely talented and very different artists, and tonight was the most versatile American Idol finale ever. There was a nice mix of music and talent, although it wasn’t necessary for it to be two hours long, it was overall a great show.

(SPOILER ALERT) That being said - I am thrilled the title went to Kris Allen! I think his voice is ready for radio and that he will do fairly well with this win. Adam will most definitely have a career after Idol, and I am thinking it will be Broadway. Regardless, have no fear - he will not be forgotten.

Have a fantastic summer, and hopefully you will check in with me next season. Who knows maybe I will be on American Idol and can write a behind the scenes blog for you all to read! You never know!

Idol: Part 1 of the Finale

The final two - Who will be left standing?

Okay, so I would have never guessed this season would come down to these two contestants. It’s a surprise finale for me. But, I am always excited to hear the tunes each week on American Idol. The contestants will be performing three songs tonight. YAY, I am excited! Enjoy my review tonight, and I will also write a major review tomorrow night, so be prepared for that. It will be a recap of the entire finale, and I can’t wait! Anyway, enjoy the review, and I can’t wait until they post where they will be auditioning this summer.

Adam
Song 1: "Mad World"
Since we already heard him sing this song, there isn’t much to say about it. He sounds okay, but I guess I’m more concerned with what he is wearing, so dark and dreary. He is creeping me out tonight with his look and outfit. Nothing special for me so far. He will need to up the game in the next two songs.

Song 2: "Change is Gonna Come" (Simon's choice)
Wow, his look isn’t creeping me out on this song. He looks good, but I'm not sure if I would have picked this song for him. I don’t like this on his voice, and I’m actually confused as to why Simon Fuller picked it. He makes funny faces when he sings. Not so sure about that song for Adam tonight.

Song 3: "No Boundaries" (co-written by Kara, who happens to be an amazing song writer)
I can tell from the start that I am not going to like how Adam sings this song. This song doesn’t fit his voice, as is what usually happens with these Idol songs. Yeah, not a good song for his voice at all - I actually feel bad for him. I hope America doesn’t take this song into much consideration when voting tonight, because I’m pretty sure both contestants are going to sound bad on it.

Kris
Song 1: "Ain't No Sunshine"
I loved when he did this song before, and it’s a great song choice for him tonight. He looks great and sounds great tonight. Once again, it’s hard to say much since they already sang these songs on the show. I love that he played the piano as well and changed it up a bit from the first time he performed it on the show. He and Adam are so different. I have no idea how America is going to vote. Wow, Kara is really getting into the judging tonight.

Song 2: "What’s going on" (Simon's choice)
Great song for Kris. Good choice! He sounds great and I like that he is playing the guitar. He is really showing his talent tonight. Adam and Kris are so different. I don’t know how this season is going to end, but I know I am voting for Kris tonight. He is just amazing me tonight with each song. He is one truly talented guy. I guess Simon cant appreciate something stripped down and NOT over dramatic.

Song 3: No Boundaries (Kara’s song)
I was hoping he would play the guitar on this song, but I kind of figured he wouldn’t because Kara wrote it. He sounds much better than Adam did on this song. This song would do well on the radio if Kris released it because it just didn’t fit Adams voice at all. I will be voting for Kris tonight!

Well, it was an interesting night tonight and I feel that both contestants did fairly well this evening. I have no idea who is going to win but I know that I am voting for Kris Allen. Stay tuned for my biggest review of the season tomorrow night (or Thursday morning depending on when I get it all typed up!)

Idol: Showdown of the Final Three

So, I almost didn’t write a review tonight, because I am so upset my girl Allison did not make it. However, I realized that I couldn’t stop writing just because my favorite is out, so I have put together a little review for you. Enjoy the review below and I will be back for my final recap next week - I cant believe its almost over! I’m anxious to find out where they will be holding auditions for next season, and I am hoping I can make it out to them. Anyways, enjoy and be sure to come back next week for the finale!

1. Danny
Song Choice 1: "Dance Little Sister" by Terence Trent D'Arby (Paula’s choice)
Song Choice 2: "You are so Beautiful" by Joe Cocker (his own choice)

The first song was interesting, but I didn’t expect anything less from Paula Abdul. It's different, and I think Danny sounds good on it. I think the band overpowered him a little but he sounded great on the first song!

The second song that Danny picked I think was an awesome choice for him. The way he changed it up sounds great! He gave it his own little touch and it sounded great! I think he is definitely moving on to the final round.

2. Kris
Song Choice 1: "Apologize" by OneRepublic (Kara and Randy’s song choice)
Song Choice 2: "Heartless" by Kanye West (his own choice)

Great first song choice, but I don’t know if Kris can pull it off. I like that he is showing how talented he is by playing another instrument at the piano. I think throughout this competition he was overlooked a little and he is actually extremely talented. Kris sounded pretty good on the first song!

Okay, Kris’s second song choice is a strange one - I am worried about how this will work out for him. I am thrilled he is playing the guitar. It definitely shows his talent. Great arrangement, I hope this puts Kara in her place for that comment on the first song. He is brilliant, and I think he deserves to go to the final round. I might have to vote for him tonight!

3. Adam
Song Choice 1: "One" by U2 (Simon's choice)
Song Choice 2: "Cryin'" by Aerosmith (his own choice)

OMG I hate U2 - they have to be one of my least favorite bands in this world and now my least favorite Idol is singing it, great. I don’t get why people like him at all. He sounds terrible in my opinion. I am concerned that my understanding of music has been misguided or something because I hate him so much. The hype over Adam has got me all kinds of confused. Sorry guys, I just don’t get it.

Okay, totally my favorite Aerosmith song, and I’m pretty sure he is going to ruin it for me. I can’t even comment on him anymore because I will have all of his fans wanting to kill me. I will just say that I hope he does not make it to the finals.

Rock on, American Idols!

So it's Rock and Roll Week on American Idol - this should be exciting. What I was expecting out of some of the contestants tonight, I did not get. The performances were way more boring than I thought they would be. I was hoping for some of the contestants to shine a little more this week since rock and roll is such a great category, but some of the song choices were strange. It will be interesting to see what happens Wednesday night. Enjoy the review and please don’t hate me for my opinion!

1. Adam
Song Choice: "Whole Lotta Love," Led Zepplin
Okay Adam looks scary, and I don’t like the song choice. He could have done so much with this week, and I think he chose a song that did not do it for him. I know, I haven’t been a supporter of him, but this week he really didn’t do as well as I expected him to do. I thought it would be a standout performance for him and to be honest, I didn’t like it at all. His screechy voice and his ability to always look like a freak is starting to weird me out. (And sorry, Randy, but I still thought Broadway when I saw him, because he is way too dramatic and over the top!)

2. Allison
Song Choice: "Cry Baby," Janis Joplin
I love her! I really want her to make it to the finals in this competition. She looks awesome and sounds awesome tonight! This is a great song! A little boring in the middle, but she sounds great. I thought she could have picked a different song to showcase her rock side more, but overall she sound good. Not my favorite performance from her, but it was pretty nice. Could have been edgier but it was good vocally, but still a little disappointing for me.

Duet number 1: Danny and Kris
Song: "Renegade," Styx
Uh, why the hell is Idol doing duets?! I am not so sure what is happening here. Kris and Danny actually sound good on this song. Kris hit a few bad notes and Danny sounds great when he hits is higher notes. It was different and interesting. I think they should leave this out next season, though. There was really no point in having them do duets. (Editor's Note: Click here for my personal favorite version of this song! It fills my heart with so much joy.)

3. Kris
Song Choice: "Come Together," The Beatles
Interesting song choice since I don’t consider it to be rock and roll, but whatever. Haha - he said he wanted to pee his pants in his video clip about meeting Slash. That was funny! Kris sounds great tonight! I really like how he took a genre that wasn’t really his and chose a song that he could make sound more like him. It showed how talented of a musician he is. It’s a shame because most Americans won't pick up on that and we will lose a great talent. Not only is he one of the best voices in this competition, but you can tell he is also a talented musician, and knows how to stay true to his musical style.

4. Danny
Song Choice: "Dream On," Aerosmith
Oh, Lord. I am nervous for him. This is a difficult song to sing - all of Aerosmith songs are. I am not sure if he can pull it off. He sounds good, but you can tell he is definitely not rock and roll. That last note was a little off for sure, but it was a nice try. Not one of my favorite performances from him, but I think his fan base will save him this week.

Duet number 2: Allison and Adam
Song: "Slow Ride," Foghat
Allison sounds great on the duet, and Adam is, of course, way over the top. But overall, I guess they sound good together. I just don’t like that they did this duet thing. It's not that exciting, and they ended up going over on time again. I am going to have nightmares of Adam's screeching vocals all night now. Wow, he is annoying me more and more every week.

Bottom two: Okay so I am guessing on a bottom two this week because I don’t know if I can pick three. I am going to say that Kris and Adam will be in the bottom two with Kris going home. I know you all might think I am crazy for putting Adam there, but I just think he may have disappointed some of his fans this week. I guess we will see. Thanks for reading!

Idol: Songs from the Rat Pack Era

I was prepared for this night to be boring, because I am expecting these songs to be all slow and boring, and for the most part, I was right. Of course, all of the songs were ballads, and most of the contestants made them sound somewhat boring. But you have to remember, the contestants don’t pick the themes, so they are forced to pick the best songs out of a particular era. I am not sure why they chose this era, but I can promise that I will faithfully write my review. Below you will find my review and who I believe will be in the bottom three. Thanks for reading!

1. Kris
Song Choice: "The Way You Look Tonight"
Interesting song choice for him, and I think he will do it justice. He has a great voice and has great control over his vocals. I hope he goes far and really uses this show to start a music career for himself. He is someone I could hear on the radio, like a John Mayer kind of vibe. Good job tonight!

2. Allison
Song Choice: "Someone To Watch Over Me"
Another interesting song choice, but I think she will rock it. I know I say it a lot, but I can’t believe she is only 17 years old. She has such control and presence on that stage.
I think her version was a little boring, but you can tell she has major vocal ability. I really didn’t think she was going to pull that off, but it was pretty darn good! Great job tonight!
P.S. I love her dress!

3. Matt
Song Choice: "My Funny Valentine"
This will be a good week for Matt, and I am glad he chose this song. I am interested to see how he changes this one up. I don’t like the beginning. He doesn’t sound like himself. He isn’t performing as well as I expected him to. It's actually quiet boring, and I predict he will be in trouble this week. There were parts of that song that were not great, and I agree with Randy on the song not coming together.

4. Danny
Song Choice: "Come Rain or Come Shine"
Good song choice and Jamie was funny in his clip. I think Danny will do well on this song tonight, and I’m right cause he sounds great. Vocally he sounds great! One of his best performances so far in this competition!

5. Adam
Song Choice: "Feeling Good"
I’m interested to see what he does this week, and I am sure he will NOT do something slow and boring. Okay, so vocally he is good but in my opinion, he just comes off cocky, and I hate that. Also, I just want to point out that if he made a record, it would not get radio play. So therefore, I hate that the judges give him so much praise when he will be one of those contestants that ends up on Broadway (where I believe he belongs) and not on the radio. It's not that I don’t think he is talented. I just don’t think he is what American Idol is all about. So there, it took me some time to finally put into words why I don’t like him but there it is.

Bottom three: Matt, Allison (although I don't think she deserves to be in the bottom), Kris.

I'm thinking Matt will be going home, but I actually am not sure about that this week. I wouldn't be surprised if who I have as the bottom three is a little different. I think its a tough competition this year and each contestant has lots of fans. I cant wait to find out though!

I have some sad news. Bea Arthur, my favorite of the four Golden Girls, has passed away today at the age of 86. Thanks for all of the laughs, Bea. I'll still watch you every day. May you rest in peace.

Grey Gardens: The Best Costume for the Day

I love the 1975 documentary, Grey Gardens, about the unforgettable mother and daughter duo, Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, relatives of Jackie O.

For those not familiar, Big and Little Edie had been cast aside from their wealthy socialite family and once their trust fund money ran out, they were left to survive in absolute squalor in what was once a giant, beautiful 28-room mansion in New York's wealthy East Hamptons. With the house literally in shambles, the women virtually lived without any standard plumbing, heat, or electricity, and various animals (dozens of cats, raccoons, etc.) treated the dilapidated home as their own private bathroom.

Eventually, the county declared the home unfit for human habitation, and the Edies were told to shape up or ship out, literally. When the story became public, Jackie O and her husband, Aristotle Onassis, ponied up the cash to ensure that Grey Gardens met the county's standards. In 1975, documentary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles took on the daunting task of filming these eccentric women, who never left the house, and the result is cult classic history.

I can't really explain Grey Gardens to someone who hasn't seen it. You really have to see it to believe it. These two women fight constantly, yet love each other dearly. They're both hilarious and sad, and the movie has a plethora of quotable lines. It was even adapted into a Broadway musical a few years ago. It's a beloved film that will continue to be popular, regardless of its age.

This is why I was highly skeptical and extra nervous when I found out that HBO was doing their own take on the story of the Edies, starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore. Yes, the same Drew Barrymore from every lame romantic comedy ever, except for the ones with Reese Witherspoon. However, I got the chance to watch the film this weekend and it was much better than I expected. It's not simply a remake of the documentary (which would have been completely pointless and borderline insulting), but it follows the Edies throughout four decades of their strange lives. Jessica Lange is spot-on as Big Edie, and Drew Barrymore held her own as well. It's tough to nail Little Edie's unique "accent" without it coming off as a cheap parody, but Drew did her justice. While nothing will be as touching, bizarre, and fun as the original, the HBO version sheds new insight into the lives of Big and Little Edie, and as a fan of the documentary, I enjoyed it.

Do yourself a favor and watch the original, and then the HBO versions of these films. You won't regret it. I've also posted a classic clip of Little Edie discussing one of her famous daily "costumes," and the trailer for the HBO film.

Idol: Disco Fever!

So this week was disco week on Idol, and it’s also going to be 7 contestants instead of 6, since last week the judges saved Matt. I will admit I am upset that I had to miss the judges actually use their judges save. From what I hear it was a pretty crazy and overly dramatic night last Wednesday on Idol - and I missed it to sit in the rain at a Pirates game! (Don’t worry, the dollar hot dogs were worth every raindrop hitting my head!) At any rate, here is my review of Disco Inferno, and I will say the contestants came out in full force tonight! It was an interesting and enjoyable show tonight. I hope you enjoy the review, and please leave comments as I actually check back and read them! Thanks guys!

1. Lil Rounds
Song Choice: "I’m Every Woman"
Artist: Shaka Khan
I think week after week Lil gets progressively worse. The version of this song and they way it was cut was terrible and did not showcase her voice at all. Not only did she sound terrible but she looked terrible as well - what on earth was she wearing? She should probably go home. They gave her too many shots. Wow Kara was harsh tonight, and I agree with what Simon said about it being “a mess.”

2. Kris
Song Choice: "She Works Hard for the Money"
Artist: Donna Summer
Strange song choice but I really like what he did with it. Comparing him to what Lil just did before him is like apples to oranges. Kris is doing exactly what he should be doing - taking a song and arranging it to make it his own. Great performance from Kris tonight, and I agree with what the judges are saying!

3. Danny
Song Choice: "September"
Artist: Earth, Wind and Fire
Never thought he would pick this song. He sounds pretty good. When he goes into his upper range he sounds his best. When he is in the lower range, not so much. But he sounds pretty good tonight. I think the other contestants are overshadowing him and he may need to step up his game soon. I am worried he is playing it too safe and he may need to spice it up next week with something different.

4. Allison
Song Choice: "Hot Stuff"
Artist: Donna Summer
Oh, I like how she started the song with a very bluesy/sexy kind of vibe. I like the arrangement she put together and how she sang it. Seemed a little slower but a nice change. I think she is overlooked and deserves to go far. I still can’t believe she is only 16 years old. How do you have that much stage presence and that much of a voice at 16? CRAZY! I agree with Simon, and I think she will last longer than what other people are predicting.

5. Adam
Song Choice: "If I Can't Have You"
Artist: Yvonne Elliman
Sorry, I still don’t like him, personally. I expected him to sing something faster and funkier, especially for disco night. He sounds good but not his best I don’t think. It seemed like he wasn’t hitting all of his notes and it was way too indulgent for me. The judges must be so bored with the other contestants that they just give him so much praise. I don’t know. I just don’t get it.

Artist: Bee Gees
He sounds great - excellent choice for him! I really like how he arranged the song to fit him vocally. He really sounds great this week. I truly hope he sticks around some more. He reminds me of Elliott Yamin so much from a few seasons ago. He looks great tonight, too. Good for him, because he really brought it tonight. I totally disagree with what Simon said about his performance - he was brilliant tonight!

7. Anoop
Song Choice: "Dim all the Lights"
Artist: Donna Summer
He sounds pretty good tonight. I like when he sings the slower songs. They really show off his range. Strange song to pick for disco night, but its working with his voice. It was somewhat boring and the last note was off. I am not sure how America is going to vote but I have a feeling he may be in trouble this week considering two are going home.

Bottom three: Well, I have no idea who is going home this week since it will be two contestants. My guess and my hope is that Lil is leaving. I can’t even guess as to who the other contestant will be, but I’ll take a shot. I’m thinking it’s going to be Lil, Matt and Anoop, with Lil definitely leaving. Let's go to the movies! ....Or just watch Idol do it.

I thought the cinema theme was a little odd for Idol tonight. I also thought it was odd that they had Quentin Tarantino as the mentor - what the hell does he know about singing and music? I mean, I guess he includes songs in his movies, but does he really know that much about music? I don’t know, I’m not convinced, and I’m a little confused. I can tell already that Adam will have a great week since it’s a director for a mentor and he is over dramatic every week. One thing I hated about this week for sure was how they didn’t allow the judges to talk for every performance. The whole point of the show is to hear what Simon is going to say after each performance. They better change that one next week. Below you will find my review of each performance.

1. Allison
Song Choice: "I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing"
Artist: Aerosmith
I love this song, and I love her! I’m surprised she is going with slower songs but it works for her. She doesn’t sound that great this week, and I’m surprised because I really like her. It would be a shame if she went home too early in this competition. Yes, and the judges love her! And just for the record - from the moment she auditioned, I said she was going to make it the finals (and actually I said she would win the entire show), so if that happens then I will say I told you so.

2. Anoop
Song Choice: "Everything I do, I do it for you"
Artist: Bryan Adams
Great song! He is another one that is doing all these slow songs for some reason now. Oh, and he pulled an Adam had a colored spotlight! He sounds great, and this is just a great song choice for him. I like his arrangement of the song. He really went with all the in your face sections of the song and it worked in his favor. He sounded great on all levels. Although I am wondering what the heck he is wearing.

3. Adam
Song Choice: "Born to be Wild"
Artist: Steppenwolf
I really can’t comment on Adam anymore, because I have this strong hatred for him. He is just too dramatic for me. Although I will admit, and this is the first time I will say anything positive about him so prepare yourself - you would definitely get your money’s worth if you paid to see him in concert someday. He is somewhat entertaining, but way too over the top for Idol in my opinion. He is pure 80’s rock and roll and if you like that thing, then great for you. Not so much for my old school country heart.

4. Matt
Song Choice: "Have you Ever Really Loved a woman?"
Artist: Bryan Adams
This song makes me cry it is so great. I know, I am a dork. But this is a great song choice and a great choice for him. LOVE this song. He didn’t change it much or make the song his own, but it was still pretty good. Vocally he was a little off there towards the end, but it was an all right performance for him. He has done better, but he was still good. He may be in trouble this week.

5.Danny
Song Choice: "Endless Love"
Artist: Lionel Ritchie
Great song choice, and he seems really into it. Perfect song for his range - can he sing me to sleep every night please?! However, I don’t like him without glasses for some reason. He looks too serious. He also looks sad this week, like Simon said, as if the song has a lot of meaning for him. He sounds great every week, and I’m cheering for him!

6. Kris
Song Choice: "Falling Slowly"

Artist: Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova

I have never heard this song before, so I am interested to see how this goes. The song is a little boring, but it fits his voice and you can tell he is really into it. It might be a little low for his range in some parts. I don’t think a lot of people are going to like this performance, but he sounds great. I thought that was really brave and he pulled it off. I agree with Kara, it was one of his best performances in terms of proving he is as an artist. Great job, Kris!

7. Lil
Song Choice: "The Rose"

Artist: Bette Midler
Of course they would give her the pimp spot, since they want her to win. She bores me, and I wish she would leave soon. Of all songs, why would she pick this one? She is not hitting all of her notes and is trying too hard, causing it to sound terrible. This may be her last week, hopefully. I love how Simon rolled his eyes, and I totally agree with what he says. Lil was not good tonight and with the competition being so tight talent wise, she will probably go home.

Bottom three: Matt, Kris and Lil
I think Matt and Kris are both better than how they performed tonight, and I truly believe that Lil deserves to go home. If we are looking at it from a performance perspective, (which we are suppose to be doing), then Lil gave the worst performance, and has been giving pretty terrible performances each week. Hopefully it will be the end for her. Well, thanks for reading guys and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

American Idol: The Year They Were Born

First off, I'm sorry I haven’t been writing reviews for a while - life caught up with me somewhere along the way. Anyway, I am back, and I was expecting this night to be filled with boring, cheesy 80’s music, and I was slightly surprised. This season they sure are picking the most boring, snore worthy songs though. But one things for sure, Simon and Paula are acting stranger and stranger each week. It’s like Paula drags on forever and then Simon completes her sentences, and it’s just strange to me. What’s even stranger is that I am agreeing with everything the judges are saying tonight, with the exception of what they said about Chris and Adam. But yeah, below you will find my recap and opinions. And just to give you a heads up, Allison and Matt were AMAZING!! I really love both of them and it doesn’t hurt that they picked great songs! Anyway, enjoy the review and please leave me comments so I know that people actually read these things.

1. Danny
Song Choice: "Stand By Me"
Odd song choice but whatever, it might work. Different version, which was actually kinda cool. He reminds me of Elliott Yamin a little. I am starting to think that anything Danny does is awesome. I really think he is in it to win it, and I am totally okay with that.

2. Chris
Song Choice: "All She Wants To Do Is Dance"
He is going to rock on this song, perfect for his range. I like that he is playing the guitar but not liking that he is in the audience. That is so weird for me. He made the song very pop and relevant which I LOVED!! The judges are idiots, I thought his performance was great tonight.

3. Lil
Song Choice: "What’s Love Got To Do With It"
Great song choice. She looks completely different than the past weeks, and the new look is much better. I really don’t think she has anything special to her voice, and I never thought that, so I don’t know what the judges see in her. But she sounds all right tonight, but nothing compared to Tina Turner. It just didn’t work for me tonight. Kinda harsh to say, but I hope she is gone this week, because I personally don’t like her.

4. Anup
Song Choice: "True Colors"
LOVE this song and I am a little surprised he chose this. Great song! He sounds okay. I have a feeling he wont be safe this week - the song was a little boring and it never really picked up. He does have an awesome voice though! I hope he is safe because he is one of my early favorites. Plus the judges loved him, yay!

5. Scott
Song Choice: "The Search Is Over"
Weird to see him standing and playing the guitar (and singing about sight). Wow, there was some rough notes in there, but mad props for doing something completely different. I agree with the judges on this one. HAHA Scott says he has a punk side - I find that funny.

6.Allison
Song Choice: "I Cant Make You Love Me"
I LOVE this song, and I sing it at every karaoke bar I go to. Strange that Allison picked this song, but she sounds great. She has great control of her voice and I love her! I agree with the judges and every week she reminds me of Kelly Clarkson! I love, love, love, LOVE her! From the beginning I picked her to be in the finale, and I still think she has a chance.

7. Matt
Song Choice: Part Time Lovers
OMG LOVE HIM! That beginning was so awesome. Stevie Wonder is so hard to sing and he sounds great! He reminds me so much of Justin Timberlake its freaky. He really sounds great and it’s so different than last week. He def does this soul thing better than whatever he did last week. It was AWESOME! Agree with the judges completely!

8. Adam
Song Choice: "Mad World"
My sister is in love with him. I never saw it, and I still don’t see it after tonight. What the hell is this song? He always does something so dramatic and I just never get it. It actually irritates me. Like he has this special light on him and shit. Dude, you are just on American Idol - you’re not some superstar. And I do not agree with the judges on this one. I just don’t get him. Each week I think I am missing something, but I have yet to find it with him.

My night at The Circus!

This past Friday (which also happened to be my birthday, cough, cough), I went to see everyone's favorite karate kid, Ms. Britney Spears, live in concert. I'm going to preface this by saying that SPOILERS will be revealed, so if you are going to any of her future shows and want to be surprised, I suggest you stop reading now.

The evening kicked off with a 45-minute set by the Pussycat Dolls, America's low-rent version of the Spice Girls. Honestly, the vast majority of their songs sound the same to me, so I went to the bathroom and got a beer from the concession stand during their portion of the show. The lead Pussycat, Nicole, resorted to saying "Pittsburgh" and "Britney" every time she spoke to get the crowd to cheer. Yawn. I will say that they did end on a high note with singing "When I Grow Up," as their finale, which is pretty much the only song of theirs I like.

After about 45 minutes of stage set up and various circus acts - clowns (not scary ones), acrobats, etc., it was time for the real show to get started. Perez Hilton made a cameo in the opening video as Queen Elizabeth, and then the real queen, Britney herself, descended from the ceiling in a ringmaster ensemble to appropriately kick off the evening with a rendition of "Circus," the title track from her latest album.

From then on, the evening went full-speed ahead with non-stop entertainment for myself and 20,000 of my fellow Britney fans. Yes, Britney was lip-synching a good 99% of time, (the only exception may have been the ballad "Everytime," which was also the only slow song of the evening), but I expected that, and I don't care. With how intense the dancing was, I don't even know if it would be possible for her to really sing. She rarely addressed the enthusiastic crowd, and when she did, it was short and sweet: "What's up, Pittsburgh? Thank you for coming."

There were several costume changes, but the audience was kept entertained in the meantime with different acts of dance, gymnastics, and even a sexy video set to Marilyn Manson's version of "Sweet Dreams." The set list heavily favored her new songs, but she also sang old staples as well: "Boys," "Toxic," "Me Against the Music," "Do Something" "I'm a Slave 4 U," and, of course, "Hit Me Baby One More Time." Noticeably absent, in my opinion, were "Oops, I Did It Again" and "Crazy," but maybe the latter hit a little too close to home.

It's hard to describe how visually stunning the show actually was. Everywhere you looked, there was something going on. It was like Cirque du Soleil + a professional magic show - featuring Max from Saved by the Bell as the magician! + excellent choreography/dancing, which = an overall fantastic concert.

I really enjoyed myself and would definitely go back again if Britney and her Circus ever roll into town again. With all of the craziness that seems to surround her, who knows if that will ever happen, but I'm glad I got to experience this show when I had the chance. It was a great birthday present to myself!

How am I supposed to live without you?

Saved by the Bell is my #1 all-time favorite show. I know it's awful, and I don't even care. There have been several attempts to reunite the cast (none of the original cast has appeared together since 1994's Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas), but it has never happened, much to my dismay. Each of the cast has gone onto varying degrees of fame or infamy (I'm talking to you, Dustin Diamond), with Mario Lopez being arguably the most famous. I saw him last summer on Broadway in A Chorus Line, and his reaction from the crowd was still very AC Slater-esque, proving that the love from the public is still there.

Jimmy Fallon of NBC's Late Night from Jimmy Fallon recently launched a campaign encouraging the SBTB cast to reunite. So far, the only one to agree is Dennis Haskins, better known to all of us as Mr. Belding. However, this is only the beginning. I encourage all of my fellow SBTB fans to watch this video and sign the reunion petition. This is history in the making!

Pussy Galore & Her Abrocats

I just realized that I have not put into words my thoughts about Nadya Suleman, alias "Octomom." Of course, this happened quite a bit ago, so it's a little irrelevant, but it's my blog, so I can write about things on my time.

For those of you who don't know the story:
1. At one time, Nadya was a working individual. She was injured during a riot and received approximately $165,000 in Worker's Compensation.
2. Nadya then used approximately $100,000 of that money to go through the process of in vitro fertilization.
3. Nadya then had 6 children. They are all under the age of 8. The last two are a set of fraternal twins.
4. Apparently this wasn't enough for Nadya, and her doctor implanted 6 embryos (two of which twinned), resulting in octuplets.

The reason that Nadya had all six embryos implanted was because she didn't want the embryos to be destroyed. I am wondering if she did this for a religious reason or if she really, really, wanted to get what she paid for.
I don't understand religious people who think that it's perfectly acceptable to do whatever they can (even when it's unreasonable and dangerous) to get pregnant, but they can't destroy byproducts of this assisted fertilization or can't selectively reduce when they have a litter of human beings inside of them. To me, this is hypocrisy and faulty logic. People like Jon & Kate Gosselin say that when they found out they were having 7 (one peaced out) babies, they left it in god's hands. Well, maybe it would have been good to leave it ALL in god's hands. You can't get knocked up = too bad, so sad. Why is it that people leave things in god's hands only when it suits them? I feel like it's a cop out to say that god wants you to do the stuff you want to do and to not do the stuff you don't want to do. If Jon & Kate had let things happen naturally, they wouldn't have 8 children that they need to pimp out in order to live the lifestyle that they want.
But I digress. Nadya Suleman is not the Plus8 family. She is a single mom who thinks that it's okay and responsible to raise 14 children by herself. I'm all for reproductive freedom, but wow. Unless those grandparents step it up and basically act as co-parents (which is completely unfair to them), those kids are not going to have nearly enough love, affection, attention, etc. It's a completely sad situation all around.
I haven't been following the story much lately, but some of the babies are allowed to come home from the hospital and Nadya is complaining about how the media is invading her life. I think that's par for the course - if you want companies to donate things to you, they're going to want publicity. Get over yourself.
Deceiver also quotes Suleman as saying, "Had I not been offered a couple little opportunites to secure some resources for them, I would have been forced, probably, to get [government] assistance ’til I was completed with school. And then again I would be forced to work I don’t know how many hours a day to support them as a counselor."
Wow. I think her sense of entitlement weighs more than all 14 kids put together. This woman chose to do something extremely risky and irresponsible and she is complaining she might have been forced to EARN A LIVING like the rest of the people in this country who DON'T do dumbass things. I can't believe she doesn't understand why people might think she's a greedy whack job.
In closing of this bitch session, I hope this ho figures something out for her children's sake...but if it involves a t.v. show - that is one trainwreck I cannot, in good conscience, bring myself to watch.

Dear Robbie Williams,

I just realized that I've never even mentioned my undying love for you on Sooperserial, aka the world's second greatest blog. It makes me really sad when 99% of the people I talk to about you don't even know who you are, or, even worse, think that I have a huge crush on ROBIN Williams. I know that you're not even remotely popular in the United States, despite the fact that you're the #1 selling artist of all-time in the UK, and you're in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the fastest-selling concert tour ever. However, I pride myself on being one of the few Americans smart enough to recognize your incredible talent, charisma, sense of humor, and, of course, HOTNESS.

Even though you may only be playing for an audience of about 25 people, please consider doing at least one concert in the United States somewhere before you get too old and decide to retire and move back to your hometown of Stoke on Trent. I am willing to travel anywhere within the US, or even Canada, to achieve my #1 life dream of seeing you in concert. In fact, in 2006 I even strongly considered spending $1,000 that I don't even have to attend a concert of yours in Mexico City before I read a bunch of stuff online saying how fair haired/skinned females should never travel alone in Mexico City if they value their lives.

I know you are busy chasing aliens, cross-dressing (relax, folks - it was for a video), and dealing with your bipolar disorder, but as an American who fell in love with you in 1999 and has managed to stick around this long (Yes, I even own Rudebox, which everyone hated but me), I think you owe it to me to perform in the States. I'm not above begging! Call me!

Take Me On A Trip, I'd Like To Go Somewhere

Okay, Okay, we get it - WE SUCK at keeping this thing updated. I have super busy lately, but I will definitely be making an effort to write more. Lex and I recently took a trip with some friends to sunny Florida to visit our married couple friends that live there. During such time I celebrated by 25th birthday...which was scary. And last weekend was the St. Patrick's Day parade here in Pittsburgh, which bills itself as the second largest in the country (I don't really have any opinion on the accuracy of that statement). My roommates and I hosted a Kegs 'n Eggs party, so we had to do a ton of cleaning/buying booze/etc. for that. The good news is... I don't really have any plans in the immediate future - I actually have some time to relax! Well, I will be tanning and looking for jobs and, oh, going to law school half-heartedly... but I will be relaxing as much as I can through all of that!

Hopefully Lex will check in soon, I know that she is really busy as well. I promise I will write a little something on Friday and whatever it is, it will be good!

AI: Country Week, YEE HAW!

Sorry I haven’t written a review in a while, but life got the best of me, and I was super busy. Anyway, I am back, and I am sorry to say that I did not watch the entire episode of Idol last night but I did have a chance to brush up on the contestants that I missed. Thank God for YouTube!

Below you will find my review, followed by the three I feel should be in the bottom. Remember, this is all my opinion. Also, please note that I am obsessed with spoilers and I check in with Dial Idol for their predictions every week before the elimination show. I almost didn’t write a review for this week, because I became nervous when I read who they predicted to go home. Let’s just say I am NOT happy with it and I am praying that for once, they are wrong. Anyway, enjoy the review and thanks for reading!

Danny Gokey—Song: Jesus Take the Wheel
I thought this was an interesting song choice for Danny. Out of all the songs he could have chosen, I never would have thought in a million years that he would sing this one. And it was actually pretty impressive to listen to. He makes singing seem so easy. Like he makes me want to attempt songs I would never attempt, and he makes me think I would actually sound good singing them (scary thought). I think for sure he is safe for many weeks to come.

Anoop Desai—Song: Always on my Mind
Wow this was a trillion, million, BILLION times better than last week. This is the Anoop we saw in Hollywood and in his earlier auditions. He has such great control over his vocals, and I am so glad he chose this song because it really showed his strength. I was worried we would lose his talents too early in the competition.

Lil Rounds—Song: Independence Day
I don’t get what the big deal is about her. I personally don’t think her voice is all that great. I was slightly ticked off, because it sounded like she lowered the song a half step, but whatever. She sounded good but in my opinion it wasn’t great. I’m hoping she will be one to go early.

Matt Giraud—Song: So Small
Matt is someone I wish does really well in this competition. I agree with Simon that he isn’t getting as much credit as he should. He is pretty up there vocally compared to the other guys, and I think he has the potential to go far. Matt is very modern/pop and just what Idol needs, I think, to push some future record sales. I’m cheering for him!

Kris Allen—Song: To Feel Your Love
LOVE him. Wow, I had no idea he was that talented, and this is one of my favorite songs! I am starting to think that the guys are way more talented than the girls this season, and it shows just by how many guys versus girls are in this competition. I really want Kris to do well and hope that he lasts on the show for many weeks to come.

Adam Lambert—Song: Ring of Fire
Look: you either love Adam or you hate Adam, and I HATE him. I think he is way too dramatic and way too over the top, and I don’t get his “creativeness.” It's just way too much for me. Whatever, I don’t think he is a big deal and I don’t think he will have a great music career but what do I know - I’m a nobody in the music world.

Michael Sarver—Song: Aint Going Down Till the Sun Comes Up
As much as I would love to pull for the average American working guy, Michael did not do a great job tonight. He picked a good song, he just didn’t perform it to its potential. There were too many words and he seemed so nervous that he might forget the words. It was just bad.

Scott MacIntyre—Song: Wild Angels
One word: BORING. I mean, seriously, I don’t know why they picked him to be on this show. He does not have that great of a voice. Also, he picked such a boring, only heard of if you love country music song to sing. Sure, he can play piano, but this show is about finding a singer, not a piano player.

Megan Joy Corkey—Song: Walking After Midnight
I’ll be honest - I was surprised when I heard she was singing this song, and I was even more surprised that she sounded decent. I can’t believe she sounded and looked that good while having the flu. Good for her, but I have a feeling she won’t be around too long. I would imagine she doesn’t appeal to that many viewers, but I think she is cool.

Allison Iraheta—Song: Blame it on your Heart
I love, love LOVE Allison and I think she is extremely talented for her age. I am not sure she has shown America her talent yet. I am waiting for her to perform something that will just blow us away. This song was good, but I am worried American wont like it. I hope everyone voted for her, because she is one of my favs and I don’t want her to go to early. (SPOILER ALERT: Dial Idol has her as potentially leaving tonight and I really, really, really hope she isn’t because I love her).

Alexis Grace—Song: Jolene
Alexis was another one of my early favorites but I don’t like the way she changed her style tonight. She sang much calmer than she has before, and it takes away what I love about her. I don’t think this is going to be a good week for Alexis. She may be one to go early just simply because she didn’t stay true to what got her there in the first place. SPOILER ALERT: Alexis is another one Dial Idol is predicting to go tonight…: (

Red Envelope Day

So, I am 0% ashamed of my pro-choice beliefs. Duh.

I am, however, 100% in favor of people having their own opinions, even if they're different than mine. But sometimes, I get a rage black-out regarding these differing opinions. Which brings me to: Red Envelope Day.

The basic premise is that people are supposed to buy/make red envelopes, write on the back that the envelope represents one child that died from an abortion, then send it to Mr. Obama in the hopes that he will not give people more choices regarding abortion.

I have many problems with this. Many of the people that are participating in this have no problem with our the many soldiers (who typically come from a low socio-economic class) going to another country to do idk and die. I am not okay with this... why do people who use religion as a justification forget that, according to their own god, the worth of a baby's life should be equal to a soldier's life or a rapist's life, etc.? I seriously can't deal with the hypocrisy.

In my ideal world, birth control would be free and easily accessible. If that can't happen, then I would absolutely want people to be able to make their own choice as to whether they can handle the task of parenting a child. I think if people think they can't do it, then they probably can't. If a person doesn't want to bring a child into this world, no one should be making them.

And instead of focusing on children that aren't even born, why can't these people just focus all their misguided energy on helping children that are already born and suffering? I just don't get it.

AI: The Competition Begins, Group 1

I first want to say that I feel like Idol is working backwards here. Remember during Season 1 when they split the contestants up into groups of 12 and had them sing it out for the top 12? This is exactly what they are doing now and to be quite honest, I am upset they are changing it.

I don’t believe it’s fair; it does not give them the best of the top 36. Instead it gives them the best of each group of 12. It’s not fair to the contestants, and I feel that contestants that should go through are going to lose their chance now. I really wish they wouldn’t choose the top 12 this way, but I don’t work for Idol so I don’t have a say in how they run things. (Although I really wish I did work for them!)

Anyway, last night was a disaster for the first group of top 12 contestants. From the terrible song choices to the awful outfits, I was worried that Season 8 was going to be a big let down. However, some contestants did stand out and hopefully it won’t be hard for America to pick their top three from this group. Below I have listed a recap of what I thought of each contestant's performance, and then I have listed my picks for the top three to move on to the next round. Enjoy, and remember to leave comments as often as you like!

First up, Jackie Tohn sang A Little Less Satisfaction—Wow, what a disaster, from the outfit to the song choice and to the singing, she was just a mess tonight. It’s a shame, too, because she has definitely got the look to make it (provided she has a better stylist), but she blew it tonight.

Next, Ricky Braddy sang A song for you—Where did he come from? I don’t remember him from the earlier rounds. He performed really nice tonight, although I do agree with Simon that he seems like a shy nice guy and that may work against him, but I think he has a great voice.

Alexis Grace sang Never Loved A Man—She has been an early favorite of mine, and tonight she sounded good, as usual. I am not sure I agree with her new look as much as the judges do. I think she can look sweeter and still show off that great voice. The song choice was a little boring, but she did more than enough to make it through. The other contestants were not as good as her tonight. (Editor's note: Anyone with the name Alexis is automatically awesome!)

Brent Smith sang Hicktown—And yet another disaster. Brent not only looked nervous as hell but he also didn’t really choose a song that was good for him. I understand he is trying to pick songs that people haven’t sang on this show before, but that was pretty out of the ordinary and not many non-country fans are going to know that song. I don’t think its going to work out for him this time.

Stevie Wright sang You Belong with Me—I never liked this girl and I just want to throw that out there for everyone. I hated her audition and I still hate her voice now (I’m so harsh sometimes). This was probably the worst song choice in the history of American Idol. Seriously, it was that bad. Why wouldn’t the vocal people tell her this song was not only stupid but completely out of her range (It was way too low for her). Contestants should never change who they believe they are as an artist to please the judges or anyone else. I think that is what happened with Stevie tonight.

Anoop Desai sang Angel of Mine—Anoop is another one of my early favorites, and I liked him again tonight. He is one of those guys that makes it seem so easy and effortless to sing. He has a great tone and quality to his voice and I truly hope he goes far in this competition. I disagree with Simon saying the song seemed too grown up for him, I actually thought it was a wise song choice and I think it will put him through to the next round.

Casey Carlson sang Every Little Think She Does is Magic—She looks cute and she definitely has that star quality look to her but then she started singing and making really, really funny faces. I literally had to look away from my television because her faces were bothering me so much. Like Simon said, she just threw it away.

Michael Sarver sang I Don’t Wanna Be—Yet another one of my early favorites, but I don’t think he did enough to make it through to the next round. I am actually really surprised that he picked this song and that he didn’t do as well as I thought he would do. He was better than the other contestants, but he has more in him. I am curious to see how things turn out for him.

Ann Marie sang Natural Woman—I am not really sure about this one. I remember liking her a lot during the Audition rounds and then not really hearing from her during Hollywood week, but tonight was just all right for me. I think she picked a huge song and didn’t really do anything huge with the song. She has more of a calm, easy listening voice and this was not a right song choice for her. I hope some of these contestants have a chance to redeem themselves.

Steven Fowler sang Rock With You—What a disaster. I am also going to put it out there and say I never liked this guy from the beginning either. He is just a waste and in my opinion they should have picked Danny’s best friend over this guy. He stinks! Haha but then again this is all just my opinion. I wish him the best of luck in his future musical endeavors.

Tatiana sang Saving all my Love—OK, what happened to the annoying Tatiana girl we all saw during Hollywood week? This is strange. I actually always thought she had a decent voice but that she was annoying as hell. Tonight she sounded all right, I don’t think it will be enough to get her through. I miss the annoying part of her. She seriously was the most talked about contestant and then she went and changed her personality on us. Weird, weird night.

Danny Gokey sang Hero—AMAZING! They sure did save the best for last (I think sometimes Idol plans for that to happen) Thank God for Danny because seriously for a minute there I was worried this Season was going to suck. Danny will definitely move on and I can’t wait to hear more from him.

Judgment Day!

Hello loyal readers. I have to report that I missed the Tuesday night show (for good reasoning) but am happy I didn’t miss Wednesday nights show. It is the revealing of the top 36 and if I’m being honest, I am surprised at some of these picks the judges have made.

First let’s talk about the changes they have made. Was it really necessary for them to be at a castle? Totally random and makes me think they are taking elements from The X Factor and trying them out on Idol (X-Factor is the British American Idol, buts it’s a little different in format). OK, so I thought the castle was totally irrelevant.

I also thought it was horrible that they made some of the contestants they were unsure about perform in sing offs. I was mortified that they would actually do that to these contestants. I literally cried while watching the first “sing off” and thought, "Wow, if I were in that situation I would probably puke." Think about how bittersweet that would be if they let you go through, but someone that you just became close friends with and someone that you knew was just as passionate about singing as you were, didn’t make it. How tough would that be? I would just be terrified and incredibly hurt going through that process. It seriously makes me re-consider trying out for this show again. Knowing my luck I would very likely be in one of those “sing-offs."

Another thing that pushed my buttons was some of the people they let through against some of the people they let go. First off, let me remind Simon Cowell that he says “if you forget the lyrics you are out,” because I think the judges seemed to forget this when they let Taylor, Joanna and some others through. I feel the judges should really stick by their word because they let good people go, like Jamar and Felicia, who remembered the lyrics and actually can sing. And instead they are giving this Joanna girl (who already had a record deal in 2007!) another shot when she blew the lyrics. It really, really REALLY ticks me off. It's OK, Joanna will more than likely blow this shot at fame just like the two or three shots she had before Idol.

That is all I have to complain about for now. I think this season will be one of those seasons where I will love to hate it, because so far I have been pretty upset with some of the decisions made on this show. Hollywood, here we come!

OK, so I could not wait till Hollywood week started. They made it look so good on their promos like there was going to be all this drama and great stuff happening. Well, there was definitely drama, but I am not so sure if there was a lot of great singing going on.

The one big complaint I have about Idol is that they aren’t showing many of the contestants singing. This is why I am unable to tell you if there was actually good singing going on during Hollywood week. There are a few contestants that we have seen and heard throughout the Hollywood episodes, but I found myself saying “Who is that?!” to almost every contestant I saw. Like that blonde chick that kept saying she was tired and basically screwed that girl over in her group. I didn’t remember seeing her audition. And I feel like the groups that they showed were most of the people that already had the camera time. I feel they should try to show as many people singing during Hollywood week as possible. I mean this is a singing competition, right? They should probably start showcasing some of the vocal talents of these contestants.

Another thing that bothers me about Hollywood week is the fact that they do this whole group night. I don’t understand the point behind it. The contestants do not get judged on the show for singing in groups, so why put them through that torture? Don’t get me wrong - it definitely adds drama and a little bit of excitement to the show, but is it really necessary to put these contestants through such torture? I feel like this week ruins it for some of those contestants that have the potential to go far on Idol. If the contestants don’t get along with their group, then it all falls apart for them. Sometimes I wonder if this is fair. Basically, when you are in a group, you are placing your dreams in those other group members’ hands. It ends up just crushing the chances of contestants that really could do well in this competition. I think Idol could do without this round.

Anyway, to wrap things up - I will say that Hollywood week was not as exciting as I expected it to be but it was better (and more entertaining!) than the previous weeks. Now I am excited to see who they pick to bring back for the Wild Card show. I heard rumors they are bringing this round back and that would be great if they do! I love, love, love, love, LOVE that Danny guy, the one who lost his wife. Every time he opens his mouth it’s amazing!!! Loved when he sang "Kiss from a Rose!" It was just magical! (I know, I’m a dork.)

Anup is just awesome! He reminds me of Clay Aiken because when you look at him he doesn’t look like he would have a great voice but then he sings and it’s pure and perfect. If this guy is cut, I will be upset.

I am very, very, very, very upset that Rose got the boot. I thought she was one of those naturally talented girls and her voice was different and simple yet great. I’m sad and I hope she comes back next year or maybe in the wild card round? (I’ll keep my fingers crossed.)

Miss “I was in heels all night and my back hurt, bikini girl” got the boot thank God!! She was awful and I sure hope they don’t bring her around for the wild card round. She is annoying.

I am interested to see how “Norman Gentle” (Nick is his real name I believe) sings normally and without the entire gimmick. I want him to stay on the show but fear that if he doesn’t give up the act he won’t stay around long.

Wake me up when Hollywood week starts!

Hello my loyal readers. Can I just say I love writing these recaps! I don’t care if only one person reads them, they are fun for me to write. Anyways I was going to write just one recap for this week but then on Wednesday night I realized the show was on for three nights this week. So I will be writing this one for Tuesday and Wednesday and give you a short recap of Thursday’s show later. I seriously just want them to start Hollywood week already. Is it me or were this seasons auditions the most boring ones yet? I mean first they cut them down to one hour shows, which upset me, and then the people they show are all boring. I sure hope this boredom doesn’t roll over into Hollywood week. I am too hyped up for Hollywood week to be disappointed. Anyways, so far this week Salt Lake City showed us some great talent, Simon and Kara feed sat next to each other and feed off each others honestly and America witnessed too much of Kara’s cleavage. Seriously, put those girls away Kara!! But overall I don’t have much to say about Tuesday and Wednesday night so below you will find the contestants that I liked and read my brief comments on them. Sorry there isn’t much to say this week, I’m just super geeked for Hollywood week to start!! Trust me there will be longer recaps in your future! Thanks for reading guys. There is, perhaps, nothing I like better in this world than free speech. I hate censorship with a passion and love when people are able to speak their minds. However, there is something out there that is raining on my free speech parade and I don't like it.

Sometime over the past year, I read an article about a website called "Juicy Campus." Since I am nearly 25, and no longer young and hip, I hadn't heard of this site, so I investigated it. The site is broken down by school and you can search for your school, and then read the anonymous gossip that people have posted. The site doesn't require even a mere username, so it's really completely anonymous. At the time I looked at it before, only one school from my state was on it and since I didn't go there, it wasn't really interesting to me. Over the past weekend, however, my roommate's friend was in town and telling us how people were trashing her on this website. So, I decided to visit it again, and my school is now on there...great.

I think that this website is a disaster waiting to happen. A bunch of no-ball nerds are sitting behind their computer making up "gossip" about people that are probably better than them. On the site for my school, certain girls are consistently talked about with regard to their sexual activities. Hopefully these girls are able to recognize that the asshats writing on the site are probably just taking a break from Dungeons & Dragons and are not people worthy of any time or attention. In the article I read last year, a girl had to take a semester off from school because the stuff written about her on the site was so damaging.

Again, I love free speech with all my heart, but the existence of this site makes me have conflicting feelings. I think that people should own their opinions, and Juicy Campus promotes a divergence from that. If you're going to say something bad about someone and put it out there for all the world to see, I don't think you should have the luxury of being completely anonymous. There are anonymous blogs and websites out there, of course, which I also don't love. But Juicy Campus's goal is to get people to write scathing things and then not face any consequences. It's lame. It's for pussies.

All of this makes me happy that I wasn't in high school when Facebook and MySpace existed and that I got out of college before Juicy Campus hit. I feel bad for the kids who have to deal with this stuff on a daily basis... and I am truly worried about what is to come next in the technological bullying arena.

American Idol: Week 2 (Part 2)

Idol Check in, Louisville Auditions

Hey guys, it's Andrea giving you the AI recaps that you all love so much. Tonight it’s going to be short and sweet, well most of it will be sweet. Since the show was only an hour this week and the fact that it bored me to death, I don’t really have much to say about it. Once again, I hated what Kara was wearing. Sorry, I tend to judge people by what they wear; it’s a problem I am trying to correct. At any rate I like the bickering that is happening between Simon and Kara, it's different and spices Idol up a little. Since Kara actually makes sense when she speaks, it’s better than Simon arguing with Paula, who never makes sense.

One thing that I find strange about this season are all the positive things coming from Simon’s month. He doesn’t usually turn people away as nicely as he has been this season. For example he politely told Aaron Williamson that he should look for a job that involved screaming. Its like Simon is still giving the rude remarks but not taking them as far as he has in the past. I haven’t decided if I like the new Simon yet or not. Thoughts??

Of course the whole issue of finding the UNDISCOVERED voices of America came up again tonight when Joanna Pacini auditioned. Kara starts her audition by stating that she knew her and that Joanna was previously signed to a major record label. This ticks me off a bit. I mean the girl is pretty and can sing but is this really fair? I’m interested in what you readers think. Leave me comments on your thoughts surrounding these re-discovered talents. P.S. Joanna released a song that was featured in the movie Legally Blonde, (Watch Me Shine is the title) pretty undiscovered right?

Any who, in my closing fashion here, is a list of the people I liked tonight. It's rather short this time and I am happy to share with you that I found three people I would actually vote for and they are: Alexis Grace, LaNeshe Young and Felicia. Read below for more on my thoughts.

Louisville Auditions:
Joanna Pacini—She is really pretty and sounds great but what is up with these people who already had record deals??

Brent Keith—He sounded good and is one I look forward to hearing more of in Hollywood.

Matt—He was GOOD, I liked him a lot. He is another one I can’t wait to hear more of!

Alexis Grace—Much love for the stay at home mom, she was AWESOME!! She is my favorite female so far and will rock in Hollywood!!

Rebecca Garcia—haha I loved her because she reminds me of the very drunk karaoke singer that thinks she sounds amazing…she was entertaining to watch.

Felicia—If you blinked, then you probably missed her but I LOVED her!! She sang girl put your records on and it was only a brief clip but OMG I loved it and wanted to see more. She is one I will look for in Hollywood

LaNeshe Young—very, VERY talented. I like her! This is one of the other ones that I will be supporting!!

American Idol: Week 2 (Part 1)

Ok so this week I decided to write two short recaps for you guys and I am doing this partly because I feel last weeks recap was too long and also because I was pretty fired up after tonight’s episode. And I want to remind you that this is all my opinion and you don’t have to agree with any of it whatsoever.

So was it me or was tonight’s idol a little weird? First off, I am a huge fan of the show and I didn’t realize it was only on for an hour tonight. That was a total bummer for me : (
Also it seemed like the judges were somewhat frustrated tonight, especially Kara and Simon. Although I am not complaining, it makes for a more interesting show that way. I will say that if I had to sit in a room next to Paula and Simon for hours I would probably want to shoot myself. (I feel your pain Kara, and Randy was pretty much useless in my eyes tonight). Anyway, moving on to what fired me up.

Two things really made me angry tonight and the first one you guys will probably laugh at, so here goes. What in God's name was Kara wearing tonight?!?!? I mean was she serious with that outfit? It looked like a cat clawed her sleeves off. At first I thought it was a shirt but then when she stood up I noticed it was a dress and I was even more confused. I would like to meet her stylist and fire him/her myself. If you know you are going to be on television, in front of millions, please dress a little better. At least just for my sake! Also her makeup is a little over the top. She is a pretty girl, she doesn’t need all that dark, smoky, eye shadow. Ok now that that is off my chest. Let's move on to more important things, like the idol hopefuls.

Now this is the second issue that really bothered me about tonight and actually has been bothering me for some time with Idol. If I am not mistaken this show was created to help find the most talented UNDISCOVERED vocalist in America. That being said, I don’t understand why they continue to bring people onto the show that have already been discovered. Granted, not all of them have had their full shot at fame and this show can be used as a stepping stone for their careers, but in my opinion if you were in a hit musical or released any type of music under a record label then you should not be on idol. I don’t know about you guys but I love to hear of a musician who has been singing in bars for years or who has been waiting for an opportunity like Idol to come along. Those are the people who are naturally talented. I love hearing success stories like that from idol. A great example is Kellie Pickler. Although not the greatest vocalist, her story was one that made us all cheer her on to great success. The reason I bring all of this up is because I was very disappointed to find out that Adam Lambert, one of the auditioners and now Hollywood contenders, was in the hit musical Wicked for a year and a half. Now I like the guy and think he has a pretty good voice, but of course you have to have a good voice to perform for a year and a half in Wicked. Which leads me to the question of: is it fair to have this guy on idol next to people who have never sang in front of a huge audience before? I don’t know; I debate about this issue myself but as much as I complain about it, I will forever and always love my American Idol. I am a strong believer that if you have what it takes to make it big, then when you are given that chance you will make the most of it. Some excellent examples are Kelly Clarkson, Kellie Pickler, Fantasia, Bucky Covington, Chris Daughtry all of whom took idol and used it as a stepping-stone for their careers now. Like I said I still go back and forth about Idol allowing experienced people on the show next to the inexperienced people but one thing is for sure, it always makes for one hell of a show. As many of you readers know, I am a huge fan of American Idol and I can guarantee you there is noone else on this earth that was more excited for the Season 8 premier of AI than I was. I literally wait all year and check their website obsessively to see when the auditions will start and when the season premiere will air, and that makes me sound crazy, I know. Regardless, my wait is over and over the last two nights I was able to witness the beautiful return of my favorite reality show.

As promised, I am here to give you all the juice and info you will need on EVERYTHING American Idol. In this article I will recap the two-night premier and discuss how I feel about the new season thus far. So, without further ado….I present to you my first recap of American Idol Season 8!

To prove how much of a dork I am, and to show how much American Idol has an impact on my everyday life, I first want to talk about some of the information I researched about the show prior to it starting. (Yes, people tell me I need a life all the time.) Anyway, I spent some time researching the internet for spoilers on Season 8 and found some interesting changes that we are expected to see during this season. Throughout this recap, I will touch on each change that was to be expected and give my opinion on each. The first of which is the addition of a new and fourth judge.

As I sit here watching the first week of Idol I am noticing the effect that the addition of a fourth judge Kara DioGuardi has had on the show already. It is a nice change to see another judge, and another female judge at that! I think that Kara actually makes Paula seem normal, if that’s even possible. And I don’t mean that Kara sounds crazier than Paula - I mean its nice that someone has similar opinions as Paula does and can articulate them better than Paula. Maybe Paula can take some notes from Kara and actually start making sense when she speaks! If anything, the addition of a fourth judge gives us another opinion and Kara’s opinions seem pretty level- headed.

Another “change” that was to occur this season was the elimination of terrible singers and more of the better singers being rejected. That did not prove to be the case during the two-night premier. It seemed like almost all of the tickets they handed out for Hollywood were not deserving of those tickets. Actually, I was shocked at who they gave a golden ticket to…like the girl in the bikini, she was vocally challenged in my opinion. (I could be biased because I happen to think I have a better voice than most those contestants) Although I will say she was very smart with wearing that outfit, clearly it’s the only thing that got her to Hollywood. Hopefully, she will leave the swimwear at home during the Hollywood round. Overall though, I am going to say that this change of fewer terrible singers and more of the better vocalists was not showcased in the premier. There are clearly still freaks showing up for these auditions. Maybe throughout the rest of the auditions they will showcase more singers and less wannabes. We will have to stay tuned to find out!

One characteristic of the show that changed that I happen to like a lot is the fact that Ryan is shown talking to the contestants more before and after their auditions. This is a change that I am glad they are making and one that I am really hoping lasts throughout the rest of the season. I remember during season one when Ryan and Brian (the other host they got ride of) both talking to Kelly Clarkson right before she went into her audition and they asked her about her outfit. Kelly said she made her shirt out of an old pair of jeans, from that moment on I thought wow this chick is cool! Having Ryan talk to the contestants more allows us to get to know the contestants before the spotlight jades them. It’s also nice that they are talking to the families more too. It’s nice to know who we are voting for before they become the next American Idol.

Overall, I think the Season 8 premier wasn’t bad. The fourth judge is a nice addition to the show and contrary to what they said about eliminating terrible contestants, it was clear that that the freaks were still coming out and they believe, for some reason, that they can sing. What people don’t realize is that there are two auditions rounds prior to the Simon, Paul, Randy and Kara round that those freaks actually pass through before making it to TV. I sometimes wonder what the producers are thinking when they let some of those people pass through to the final round. One thing the producers did get right was the idea of showing Ryan talking more to the contestants so that we can get to know them before we vote for them. As I watched the season 8 premiere, I am reminded of the Season 1 auditions, were they talked to the contestants more, that’s a nice reminder in my opinion. One thing I am disappointed in is the fact that I feel some of the contestants we will be seeing in Hollywood did not deserve that golden ticket. That alone should make for an interesting Hollywood round and I am looking forward to what the next round has to offer. I hope they continue showcasing the contestants more during the Hollywood round so I can feel like I know the contestant before I spent time sending them my votes.

Arianna Afsar--She sang "Put your records on" and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard her voice. I think she is good, cute and has the potential to go far on this show!

Stevie Wright –she sang "At Last" and I was not all that impressed with her vocals, I don’t think she will handle Hollywood very well.

Bathing suit girl—OK, this chick was way over played, I don’t think she was that great vocally but was smart by wearing that bathing suit because well, it got her through.

Wednesday Night

Ashley (Sang a song that Simon wrote for Leona Lewis) —looked a little fake bake for me but LOVED her voice. She reminds me of a much better sounding Katherine McPhee! She will do well in this competition

Von Smith—this is the guy that over sang somewhere over the rainbow but wow was he good. I hope he does well in this competition and does end up being cocky

Michael Castro—well lets just say I don’t want to deal with another Castro on this show. His brother was terrible last year and I’m pretty sure he used his brother to get on the show this year…I hope he is gone early in Hollywood.

Jessica Paige—was a normal, very naturally talented girl. I hope she goes far!

India—this is another one that I feel did not deserve her ticket to Hollywood…

Anoop—looking at him, you would think he couldn’t sing but wow was he good. And it wasn’t like all those other guys that sing Boyz II Men on this show, it was actually really, really good!

Hi friends, have you missed me? I have missed you all! My computer is still down, but I'm back at school with full access to a computer lab, so I should be writing semi-regularly again. I have a few ideas for some upcoming posts, but I am pretty distracted with a new t.v. obsession. I am in love with "Veronica Mars." The f'n show isn't even on t.v. anymore, but I watched a few old episodes on On Demand and was hooked. I made it through the whole first season and now I'm on numero dos, so it's pretty time consuming. Did any of you watch this show? I always knew it was on but thought it was about aliens since "Mars" is in the title...and while I do enjoy aliens, I just never felt compelled to watch. Anyway, after I'm done with Season 2, I will have less Veronica on my mind and more other pointless drivel to expound upon.

T-Minus 4 Hours!

I am unabashedly a Vh1 addict. I will watch any piece of trash show they throw my way and I'm really OK with it at this point in my life.

This probably explains why I am SO excited for tonight's Rock of Love: Charm School Reunion show. Vh1 reunion shows are always amazing and full of surprises. However, the word on the street is that this time, the HOST of Charm School, Sharon Osbourne, gets into a fight with everyone's favorite slutty villain, Megan. I do enjoy my fair share of underdogs and backstabbers, but I have never been a Megan fan, so I can't wait to see how this fight unfolds.

My Parade is Being Rained Upon

Hey friends. I just wanted to give a quick update and let you know that my life is slowly falling apart. My laptop power port is not working, so I have no computer to post from (this post is being done in the library). Since my computer is broken, that means I cannot take my finals on it, so I am going to have to write them, SO I am going to be slower than everyone else and my hand is going to feel arthritic when I am done...lovely. My car is also on the fritz. I pulled over in a church (eek!) parking lot yesterday and my doors locked behind me. I think it was some sort of car poltergeist because my doors do not automatically lock. So then, I had to go into the church and ask to phone a friend. I was waiting in there (since it was cold and rainy) for my brother to show up and save the day and, all of the sudden, the pastor hands me a brochure and encourages me to come to meetings in case I am an addict or know of an addict - WTF?! This is why I don't go to church...well that's not really why, but it's a good addition to all the reasons I already have.
Anyway, I am going to be taking finals for a few days, which I hopefully pass so that I can get the hell out of law school 6 months from now. I know Lex is busy, too, so there might not be too many posts between now and Christmas. So if I don't write between now and then, I hope you all have a lovely Christmas (or whatever winter holiday you choose to celebrate), and we will be writing at you again soon!

Hello, all! This is Andrea just stopping by to let you guys know that I will be guest writing for my friends here at Sooperserial during the American Idol season this year! And if you are as obsessed with American Idol as much as I am, then you can understand my anticipation for Season 8 to start! The audition rounds are scheduled to start this January and I cannot wait!

A two night, four-hour event is scheduled for Tuesday January 13^th and Wednesday January 14^th at 8:00, and the audition rounds are, in my opinion, the funniest and most entertaining part of the American Idol season! I am honestly watching Fox right now just to check and see if they have started running commercials yet. Yes, I am that obsessed.

I am so excited that my friends Lauren and Lex are kind enough to allow me to share my obsession with their lovely readers. I am going to be writing weekly reviews on American Idol here on this fabulous website. And since I will be out of school and have lots of time on my hands, I plan on writing as many reviews as I possibly can! So please make sure you stop by, read my reviews and leave some comments! Just a warning…I get really, really REALLY into American Idol and foresee my articles being extremely long and very detailed. So I am sure it will be an enjoyable read for any true American Idol fan.

In my anticipation for the new season to start, I have started Googling "American Idol Season 8" for spoiler alerts. I have indeed found them! There is one particular spoiler website that I always read and they have posted names of contestants that have made it to the Hollywood rounds. It’s exciting because you can also follow the links to the potential contestants Myspace pages and YouTube videos to hear them sing and judge them for yourselves before they are judged on the show! As you all know, the auditions have already taken place by the time we watch them on television, so the contestants go about three months knowing that they have made it to Hollywood and have to stay quiet about it till the show airs. That would be extremely difficult for me to do - I would honestly tell everyone I know if I made it onto the show.

But anyway, I am extremely excited about the new season and if anyone wants to read the spoilers, they can just e-mail my friends here at Sooperserial and I can forward on the information to you. I understand that most people do not like spoilers and would instead choose to watch the show and discover what has happened but in my opinion, spoilers are great!! (Editor's note: Lex loves spoilers!)

Last night was my first night off of cold medicine in a few nights. I had to wake up early for class today and didn't want to risk sleeping through my alarm, so I decided not to self-medicate. The medicine made me, like, go into a coma and I didn't have any dreams that I could remember. Well, maybe my brain was mad it didn't get to have it's personal picture show for a few days, so last night I had very vivid dreams. I know this is boring, but deal. I dreamed that I was a passenger in a car with three other people. The whole time I knew my seatbelt wasn't on, but I didn't want to put it on because I thought the driver would be mad that it wasn't on from the start. Eventually, I did put it on and the driver scolded me a bit. End scene.

Well today, I am driving along on my morning commute and what do I see ahead of me...a seatbelt checkpoint! I want to believe that I am a little psychic for this, but probs not. I am one of those bitches that ALWAYS wears her seatbelt and hardcore yells at my passengers if they don't. If I was relaxed about wearing it and then decided to wear it today only because of my dream, I would totally start working for the psychic hotline. But alas, I am just going to go ahead and take this as a coincidence.

In other news, I finally got my computer up and running again yesterday. My A/C adapter broke and I had to order a new one. An hour after I got it to work, our internet stopped working. There's really nothing we can do to fix it since we steal it haha. We pay for our own internet, but haven't set up a router, so we are going to have to do that ASAP. I need to read all the shit that's on the web or I can't function. I usually Wikipedia things I don't know about, like at least 5 times a day. I love having information right there available to me.
Anyway, that is basically what is going on with my life - I'm dreaming and stealing. Either Lex or I will be doing a Circus review soon. Maybe we can both do one since one of us (her) is a die-hard fan and one of us is a little more unbiased.

How I Almost Lost My Friends
Hello SOOPERSERIAL readers. My name is Dave, and I am your guest blogger for the day. Today, I will be sharing a tale with you about how I almost lost my friends. I don't mean like we were at the park and got separated, I mean that I did something so incredibly stupid that I didn't think they would be friends with me ever again.

It all began on Thanksgiving Eve, some of you more intelligent readers (i.e. not Lex) may know that Thanksgiving Eve is the biggest drinking night of the year. I have had some pretty exciting Thanksgiving Eves in the past. I made a good friend named Tony on a Thanksgiving Eve, and he plays a essential part in the major disaster of this year's story. We went to a bar to visit our friend, and SOOPERSERIAL blogger Lauren's brother, Davis (see above picture). Davis is a bartender. He was hooking us up with beverages all night long, making shots for us, and making the drinks a little stronger than expected. After hanging out with Davis for some time we decided to leave his bar and head to a more local bar named Blinky's. We chose Blinky's because of their delicious food. Me and Lauren shared a garlic loaf, and some fried raviolis. I also ordered some hot wings. With all this food I also ordered some delicious alcohol.

While at Blinky's we decided to play music on the Juke Box. I gave Lauren some cash money and she pumped the Juke Box full of good music. This may have been the first step towards the disaster. Tony, who I mentioned became my pal on a past Thanksgiving Eve, is a big fan of the rock band known to some as Guns 'N Roses. He believes that Axl Rose and his current band can still be called Guns 'N Roses. I told him I don't think a band can be called Guns 'N Roses unless it consists of Axl and Slash. Slash went off with a different band and did not call them Guns 'N Roses, and Axl should do the same. Well, after a friendly debate we basically decided to agree to disagree. After just a little more time of hanging out we decided it was time to go.

On the trip home Tony and I began calling eachother Axl and Slash. The ladies we were with also wanted some bad ass musical nicknames. So we decided to hand them out. We named Tony's womanly suitor, Jillian, Yoko Ono because she broke up the band, and sometimes it seems that Jillian is trying to keep us apart. Lauren also wanted a musical nickname, and she would not agree to any of the names we tried to give her. She asked if she could be Carly Simon and, basically out of spite, Tony and I would not agree to that. We kept trying to give her names that she did not want, and she began to get a little upset with us.

We got back to Lauren and Jillian's house and Jillian refused to let us in the door until let Lauren be named Carly Simon. This is when the big disaster happened. The disaster that may only fit in during a Michael Bay film was brewing up at this time. Jill would not unlock the door and Tony told her she didnt have to because "Slash (a.k.a Dave) will kick the door down." Well, I took this as my sign and turned and kicked the door. I did not exert much force in my kick, I did not expect anything to happen from this, but it did. Oh boy did it ever! The door FLEW open and the door frame pretty much exploded everywhere. There was a moment of silence. The door was slowly swinging back ,and nobody could move a muscle or say anything at all. There was a brief moment of a nervous chuckle and some gasps. Axl instantly said "It's cool dude, I've done this before."

Jim ran up and, since he knows everything, he knew he could fix it. He said he had a toolbox in his car and skipped back to his vehicle to get it. He brought out a hammer and Jillian went and got some nails. Axl and I started hammering any pieces we could find back together. In hindsight this was probably a poor choice. We thought we could easily fix it, but apparently this was not the case. While we were working on the door, two neighbors strolled by. Just so you know, this was happening around 2 a.m. These neighbors looked at us and said "Ummmm don't three girls live here, what is going on?" They thought Axl and I were theives doing things to the lock at the house. Lauren stepped out and told them we were not robbers and that everything was cool. The intelligent neighbors then said "Oh so you got drunk and kicked the door down." This was exactly correct. They laughed a bit and then wished us all a goodnight.

We did get the door to be able to close, but we did not get the lock to work. I said I would sleep in front of the door so that if any evil doers were to break in, I would be there for them to kill before they could go murder the girls in their sleep. The girls told me this wasn't necessary, they would just lock their bedroom doors, but I had to break the news to their roommate Jenny. Jenny and I have an interesting relationship. Let's just say that we are currently not friends. I went up and told her what had happened. She was not happy. She said it needed to be fixed and I assured her that it would be. Jillian hung a note on the door reminding Jenny to be gentle with the door. She was never happy about it.

Friday, I finally came back to the scene of the crime and repaired the door. It may not be as pretty as it once was, but I believe it is more secure than it was before. During the repairs we found out the door frame was basically hollow and that is why a simple kick completely blasted the frame into many shrapnel-like pieces. Some jokes have been made about it, and it is becoming water under the bridge, except with Jenny, she is still not happy. Maybe one day I will be able to write a blog about how I won her back as a friend, but for now it is just this story. The story about how Guns 'N Roses, alcohol, and Yoko Ono made me do something so stupid I almost lost my friends.

"Giving Thanks"

First – a big thank you to Lauren and Lex for letting me celebrity blog on SOOPERSERIAL. I am a loyal reader and I'm excited to have an entry in the blog hosted by my two favorite bitches. In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, I have decided to devote my blog entry to things that I am thankful for. There are many things in my life that give me reason to give thanks (family, friends, health and well-being) but I'm choosing to highlight my "top 5 materialistic things to be thankful for" for SOOPERSERIAL readers.

1 . My New 1G iPod Shuffle

I cannot live without my tunes, and my old-ass ipod from 2005 has been on the fritz for some time now. It probably doesn't help that I would run for miles and miles with it shaking in my hands, but you live and learn. So for a cool $50 I was able to purchase a 1G ipod shuffle (pink of course). It holds 250 songs and is perfect for working out because it operates more like a flash drive, in that it doesn't have an external hard drive (geek moment). So I just clip it and go. Right now I am part of a tripod team training for a triathlon next august in Philly. I'll be the one running with my pink shuffle.

2. Elliot Stabler aka Christopher Meloni

Tuesday nights on NBC are sooper-steamy thanks to this major hottie. Elliot Stabler is a bad ass, Catholic, former-military, husband and father, detective in the Manhattan P.D.'s Special Victims Unit (SVU). I can't even remember why I started watching this show. The topics/crimes in the show are often very disturbing and usually mimic a recent event that happened in the news. Maybe it's my rando interest in criminology/forensics – but no matter what – this show is made 1000x better because of Elliot Stabler. He's always beating the shit out of people and getting in trouble for being a BAMF. He has also made a guest appearance on another favorite show of mine, Scrubs, as the puppet doctor (for lack of a real character name). Extra points in my book. He was also on Oz, but I didn't watch that show. One time, my bff sent me a picture message on my phone that was a naked pic of Elliot Stabler. I wish I still had that phone…

3. My 1996 Toyota Tercel DX
There's nothing I hate more than public transportation (not because I'm snobby but because I am usually running about 5 minutes late for all things in life, and I'd never survive on public transportation). ANYWAY – I am the proud owner of a 1996 Toyota Tercel DX. Don't know what the DX stands for, but either way, love it. It gets amazing gas mileage and I pretty much run it into the ground because it is so old. I hit a deer one time and the Tercel killed it – deer didn't stand a chance. I'll prob be getting a new car in the spring, but right now, I am so thankful to have the Tercel when I'm sitting in Philly traffic every day.

4. Boots with the Fur
So I couldn't find a picture of the actual Candie's boots that I have (me either), but these look similar. On one of my visits to my bff's house in Pittsburgh, I couldn't help but notice a warm and fuzzy pair of boots with the fur on her bedroom floor. She informed me that she got them at Kohl's (sweet, my mom works at Kohl's!) and they were sooper-comfortable. However, I try not to get too excited about shoes EVER because I wear a size 11, and it's so hard for me to find shoes. (Note: I am not a freak of nature or a giant, I just have big feet). Imagine my surprise when I head to the local Kohl's and I find an "extra large" chocolate-y pair of boots with the fur – ON SALE. I snatched those things up and they haven't left my feet since. Now my bff and I rock them together at special occasions and we highly recommend them!

5. Tazo Passion Tea

This stuff is a miracle drink. It can be served hot, iced or shaken with lemonade – and no matter what, it's amazing. My bff and I used to get venti Passion Tea with Lemonade from Starbucks and people watch on the steps of our university's union building wearing our sunglasses. Best times ever. Since it's frickin freezing outside, I drink it hot and it's still delish, just missing my bff.

So that's my list. There are tons of things in my life that I am thankful for. I have the best friends in the whole world who would do anything for me, a family who loves me, a job that I enjoy going to every day, a sweet place to live and as far as I know, I'm not dying of any horrible diseases. I hope that everyone takes a few minutes today and in the upcoming holiday season to be thankful for everything – materialistic or not – that they have in their lives. And then wash it all down with a passion tea – or some booze. Thanks for reading, bitches!

Single Ladylockdown

I am really enjoying Love Lockdown by Kanye West right now. I fell in love with Gold Digger when it came out too, and the songs are completely different - which I think is a testament to just how talented Mr. West is. He is very full of himself, but I think rightfully so. Here is the video for Love Lockdown, which I think you guys should watch. Another song I have been jamming to lately is Beyonce's Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It). It's not the most meaningful song, but it's really catchy and fun. The video is unique in the fact that it's just dancing - no plot, no driving around in cars, no frills, no fuss. I like it precisely because of it's simplicity. The dance moves are relatively easy (although done quickly and in precision - gotta give B some credit here!), so the video has spawned some impersonators. Here is Beyonce's version:

The Office: A Rant

I have been bottling up these emotions for awhile, so just bear with me, people. If you want to skip this post, I understand. I'm just very passionate about our society's important issues, like NBC's The Office.

OK, as I'm sure most people know, I have loved The Office (US version - I love the original UK version as well but that's not the point at the moment) since Day 1. I own all the DVDs, watch the weekly reruns on TBS, still laugh at Kevin's anal fissures, and wish that my company had a Dundies Award ceremony at my local Chili's restaurant. I even somewhat forced friends/coworkers to eventually just give in and start watching it because I talked about it so incessantly. However, I think the show has gone downhill this season, especially with the fanfiction-esque relationship of Jim and Pam, affectionately known as "JAM."

For those of you not up to speed, here's a quick recap: Jim and Pam were basically BFFs for life ever since they started working together at Dunder Mifflin Scranton. The two had little crushes on each other, which eventually turned into something real, espcially on Jim's end. However, at the time, Pam was engaged to Roy, a warehouse worker, so Jim knew that they could never be together and eventually, heartbroken, transferred to the company's Stamford branch, only to be transferred back to ye olde Scranton a short time later. During this time, Pam had broken off her wedding with Roy, but in the meantime Jim had already started dating someone else in an effort to move on. Eventually, they both realized they were MFEO and started dating during Season 4, and about a year later, got engaged during the premiere of Season 5.

OK, now we're all on the same page. This sounds like it should be a match made in heaven. I wanted them together so, so bad. I cried real tears over these two fictional characters! It's something that both the characters themselves and the fans have been waiting for for a really long time, so it should be perfect - right? RIGHT?! Wrong. Somewhere along the way, the writing just went really awry. Honestly to me it seems like they have a bunch of 12 year old fangirls writing their storyline because their relationship is anything but realistic.

It just seems like these two are never fully honest with each other. Pam spent a semester at "art school" (how cliche does that sound?) this season in beautiful and exciting NYC, only to mysteriously find out a few weeks before the end of the semester that she was 100% failing one of her classes. Really, Pam? You didn't know you were failing until it was too late?

So, she tells Jim that she has to stay another 12 weeks to make up for the failing grade, causing more strain on their long-distance relationship. He tells her he is OK with that if she is (which I am fine with, he is just trying to do the right thing and make her feel better), and she agrees, while trying to hold back tears. Maaaybe it's just me, but isn't honesty one of the major factors in a relationship? Your "love interest" is someone who is supposed to be there for you through the happy and sad times, no matter what. So what was the deal with Pam holding back her emotions? If you want to cry, freaking cry, Fancy New Beesley! That's what boyfriends are for!

Naturally, Pam decides to quit school (all of that work/money for nothing?!) and come back to Scranton, where she and Jim plan to live happily ever after. Gag me. I get that long distance relationships suck, but this is JAM - if anyone can stick it out, they can. To add insult to injury, Jim cooked up a little scheme while Pam was gone. He purchased a house for them without her knowing. And not just any house, his parents' house! Creepy 101. Granted, it was done out of love and his heart was in the right place, but shouldn't he have discussed such a major decision with his bride-to-be before jumping in head first? Again with the honesty thing. You aren't supposed to keep such important secrets in a relationship! It would be different if he bought her an amazing condo in Trump Towers, but we're talking your average single-family home in Scranton. What if Pam doesn't even like it?

Oh wait, of course she loves it! She thinks it's wonderful and fantastic and as always this sentiment is sealed with a kiss. The preteen writers strike again! What is next? A storybook wedding complete with a horse and carriage? Then Pam gets pregnant with twins - one boy and one girl, and they all skip off happily towards the sunset with little puppies frolicking at their side. Come on. To quote Maroon 5 (and I don't even like them!): "It's not always rainbows and butterflies/ It's compromise/It moves us along."

I'm just so over the lovey-dovey crap. They make the Dwight/Angela/Andy love triangle seem normal and healthy! (That's a whole different story in itself; do your own research on that one!) Bottom line: Let's go, Office writers, aka young adults. I want the passion. I want the pranks. I want the honesty. I want the sparks. Hell, I even want the awkward moments. I want JAM back!

Whew. I feel much better now. Fellow Office fans - do you agree with me, or am I just a cynical bitch? Maybe don't answer that last part.

Baby Mama Brookie Guest Blog

After a rousing conversation about reality television the other day, I invited my friend Baby Mama Brookie to guest blog about said topic. What follows is a pretty good description of a typical reality show viewer - you get sucked in and then start to develop feelings (love, hate, pity, etc.) for these "characters." So please welcome our first (of a few?) guest blogs:

Hello all. This is Brooke stepping in to post a guest blog. Sorta like "celebrity shooter" in one of my fave games.....beer pong. Anyways, during a lovely lunch with 2 of my besties we got on the topic of reality shows. I am actually a really big fan of them and usually start out hating the show but somehow they brainwash me and I'm addicted. First, Jon & Kate Plus 8, hated it then loved it. Not really what I would do to my children but hey, its kinda entertaining. Next, I Love New York. Absolutely positively HATE her, she annoys the crap outta me and she is just such the ghetto fabulous bitch that she aimed to be, BUT I tuned in every week to watch. Weird. Stemming from that came Real Chance of Love....ADDICTED! They are too funny and the girls are soooo crazy. You can't help but laugh. Pretty much any reality show on VH1 is good in my book. Which brings me to Rock of Love. (side note: HATED Flavor of Love) "Middle aged rock star trying to find love with twenty-something groupies that want to make a name for themselves." What part of that doesn't SCREAM entertainment?! And then, we put them in Charm School. Lost cause. But again, fun to watch. I hated New York, was grossed out by Flav, very freaked out by Little People Big World, fell in love with sextuplets....and so on, but no one irks me more than Lacey from Rock of Love. What a BITCH. Her ugly ass is always taking credit for people going home. Now, I'll give her some of that on the original season....she did know how to play the game. However, on Charm School....come on wench, these girls eliminate themselves. It doesn't take much for slutty, dramatic, attention loving whores to show they don't have "charm". Sharon doesn't need your help! The only other girl on there that I really can't stand is Megan. Luckily for me, she was recently kicked out of Charm School. Well, thanks for letting me get my feelings of reality tv out there on SOOPERSERIAL!

Well I just realized I completely forgot to blog about the election pretty much... so to summarize, I am happy with the results and I voted for Mr. O. and he won and that's awesome.

But Prop 8... oh my dear Prop 8.
I was having a conversation with one of my friends this weekend about gay marriage. We have had this exact same conversation while eating cheese steaks in Philly (yay BFF), and we had it again a few days ago. To paraphrase:
ME: Can you tell me why you don't believe gay people should be able to get married?
*TIM: It's not the same as a man and woman getting married.
ME: WHY do you think it's different?
TIM: Because it's a man and a man, not a man and a woman.
ME: But you don't think that one couple in love should have the same rights and privileges as another couple in love?
TIM: No, it's different.
ME: Why?
TIM: You must not understand.
*Name changed to protect the ignorant.

That went on for an long time in a catch 22-esque manner. I'll personally let you all know right now that I'm an atheist, so I take all religious arguments as bullshit. If you take the religious angle out of it, I really don't understand why Britney and Kevin could get married but Ellen and Portia can't. It's absolutely ridiculous to me and I think in a few years we will look back on this as a "what were we collectively thinking?" thing. I just wish someone would give me a logical reason why gay couples shouldn't have the same rights to marry as straight couples, and so far no one has been able to give me one.
Anyway, Rich at FourFour (link in our Blogroll, he is awesome - check him out!) posted this video that is pretty much AMAZING, concise, reasonable, logical, and at the same time not completely void of emotion. If you have 6 and a 1/2 minutes, I strongly urge you to watch it, and if you think you don't have the time, you're a liar pants... just watch it.

Praise Be To XENU!!!

I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong, and in the case of Tom Cruise and "Kate" Holmes, I was very, very wrong. From the get go, I figured this was just a publicity stunt (much like I thought the Ashton/Demi stuff was a publicity stunt - wrong again!) and would be over in like a hott minute. And while I still think their romance is really a fauxmance, I have to give them some credit for their efforts because today is their 2 year wedding anniversary. Good for them. I will be sending them a nice theton gift set to celebrate the occasion.
Unfortunately, Tom Cruise has been working his way up in my scorebook. He has been staying out of the public eye lately and was able to not be sooperserious about himself in Tropic Thunder. While I do love LOLing at his antics, I think it is better for him if he stays out of sight and out of earshot for a while; it makes people forget that he is so... just how he is.

So anyway, we here at Sooperserial want to wish the Cruise-Holmes family a happy anniversary. And I personally would like to bet that Tom will divorce her in approximately 7 years and 364 days... aka right before he is married to her for 10 years and property laws apply differently in the state of California... aka just what he did to Nicole.

Whatever happens, I will be rooting for you two crazy kids. Maverick + Joey Potter = sexy alien love.

P.S. I think Katie is broken, because she definitely doesn't smile the way she did in that picture anymore.

Checking In With Y'all

Hey readers. Again, we be sorry for not updating a lot. We're just busy hoes, ya knows?

Anyway, I have been thinking a lot about The Pick-up Artist - that show on VH1. It is so ridiculous that I cannot even really stand to watch it...or even be in the same room while it is on. I could understand a show where they taught lovable losers to be more outgoing and socially acceptable, but the whole premise of this show could be summed up by saying: Women are dumb -even the loserest of losers can have sexual intercourse with super hott women if they say the right lines.

Uhhh... yeah, these women have to sign releases to be on this show. The only reason they talk to these guys is because A) They feel bad for them OR B) They want to get some screen time. They could potentially get to like these guys for their personality, but Mystery (the leader of this sad pack) doesn't really let them go off of their script. And what a mystery Mystery is. Seriously? Eyeliner, lip tattoo on the neck, a bona fide locket, a feather boa, kind of a reverse drag face (i.e. a girl dressing up like a guy)...and I could go on with the list of things that baffle me about him.

Some sad news to report - one of my absolute favorite BBWs, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, has lost her mom and her brother in a double-homicide. Best wishes go out to her at this difficult time.

(PS: I kind of want to see The Secret Life of Bees, mostly just for her and Queen Latifah, who I also LOVE. If anyone else has seen it, let me know what you think.)

Weekend Update

So after an awesome shout out from Junior and many people telling us that we don't update for months at a time (not exactly true), I figured I should give a little update.
I have been busy doing lots of lame things like studying and cleaning/reorganizing my closet (and the whole time the Eminem song "Cleanin' Out My Closet" was stuck in my head). Yesterday, Lex and I attended the wedding of one of our closest friends. I have known Jamie and Andy since high school and they finally got married! Hodge Podge of Things

Well, first thing's first...changed the blog layout. Made it a little hotter, I don't know if my co-author approves, so Lex, whatcha think?

Secondly, my 3 day raw food hell is over and went pretty successfully. The first day was bad, bad, bad. My roomies wanted to go out to dinner and since I'm an apparent masochist I went with them. My iceburg lettuce with tomatoes was not looking too good next to the soup and french fries that they ordered. But I think I kicked my caffeine habit and hopefully some junk food addiction, too. So, all in all, I think it's a good detoxing method, it just kind of sucks when you are doing it.

Thirdly, my television is broken. Le sigh. I have been keeping up with my programs online for the most part, so I think I'm all caught up. Proj Run - OMG Kenley go back to your tug boat!!! Leave H. Klum and Tim alone! I am going to be the next Chris Crocker making a "Leave Tim Gunn Alone" video. Someone should do that, for sers. Not me, though. That could get viral.

Fourthly, I saw "Burn After Reading" tonight. It was pretty good. Much different than their last film...which was good for me. I liked "No Country for Old Men," but I didn't lurrrve it. This was much more quirky and light-hearted. A thing that sort of messes with me in Coen brother films is SPOILER ALERT how main characters die very suddenly. It's very disconcerting sometimes. Someone in this movie dies, but I won't be sooperspoiler and tell you who it is.
***4(a) Saw a bumper sticker in the movie theater parking lot - "It's a child, not a choice." Ummm, I'm sorry is that on opposite of Supreme Court following precedent day?

And lastly...I MISSED THE VP DEBATE!!! Apparently Palin didn't do as badly as people thought, and that would have been my only real reason for watching it anyway, so I'm not too sad. I really like how she says she thinks people like her because they want "Joe Six-Pack" represented in the presidency. This is not a goddamned reality show where Larry the Cable Guy gets to be VP. I want someone smarter than me to lead this country...unfortunately, I haven't experienced that in 8 years...but that doesn't mean I still don't want it.

On all of those scattered notes, have a great weekend everybody. Sooperserial is off to eat some spaghets with our sorority sisters tomorrow because we are sooper cool like that.

Food Rehab

Over the weekend I ate/drank a disgusting amount of food/drink and by the time my roommate brought me home a milkshake at 10pm, I decided that I needed to detox thyself.

I remembered that Beyonce did a detox diet to prepare for "Dreamgirls" (when I went to type that, I typed "Mean Girls" at first, out of habit...), so I decided to research that. I learned that she completed what is called the "Master Cleanse," which basically consists of drinking water, lemon juice, grade B maple syrup, and cayenne pepper all mixed up...and also drinking laxative teas and drinking a salt solution to make you... um, go twosies. I thought this was kind of gross, but I love drinking things, so it might have been do-able. And, Beyonce did go from this to this:

But then I read about the...twosies. You basically have to stay by the bathroom for a long time or else you might poop your pants by accident. I am not the kind of girl who wants to poop her pants either by accident or on purpose. Also, I read that things like this could come out:

It's bad enough contemplating the fact that shit (literally) like that could be in my body as we speak, but I really doubt I could handle dealing with it up close and personal. F'n disgusting for reals. So needless to say, I decided against the Master Cleanse. I decided instead to raw food only detox for 3 or 4 days and hopefully that will get the cravings for caffeine and chemically enhanced food out of my system...and maybe I will go back to semi-veganism!
For those of you who don't know, raw food is food that is natural and has never been cooked...which means for the next few days I will only be eating fruits and vegetables pretty much. These foods are extremely low in calories and don't have any of the shit that I'm addicted to in them (i.e. caffeine, artificial sugar, etc.), so I am going to be a grumpy ass ho, most likely. If Alicia Silverstone can do this shit, well AS IF, so can I!!!
I will let you guys know how the detox went, whether you care or not!

I called the friendly people at Verizon Business DSL and was connected to the lovely Greta, who ultimately helped me to resolve this problem. This is how the beginning of our conversation went:

Going Back to Philly

I love good television. I also love bad television, but I would say I love good television more. Good shows don't come around that often because the majority of American viewers like to feast their eyes on shit like "Two and a Half Men" and "King of Queens" and other garbage that's been done a billion times before. However, good programming is catching on, probably due to the success of The Office and those who fought before it (peace out Arrested Development). My newish absolute FAVORITE show is It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It's described as "Seinfeld on crack" and I think that is a good, semi-rudimentary description. It's the same basic dynamic of 3 guys and one girl who hang out consistently - appearing to not be able to form friendships with other people. The difference is Always Sunny is much, much more offensive. If you thought Seinfeld was bad when people were making out during Schindler's List, you might be turned off by people pretending to be retarded crackheads to get some welfare. However, if you loved all the risque things that Seinfeld had to offer, you will probably want to bang Always Sunny. I don't know that the show has incredible ratings (it's on FX, so it's not going to compare to anything on NBC or CBS, etc. anyway), but FX has ordered a 4th season which premiered last Thursday.
It's an amazing show, and I suggest you all get caught up on it!

Gay Jurassic Park

Happy Hump Day, hoes.
I love having Wednesdays off and I also love that my puppy has been really chill today and just taking naps left and right. She is also like sooo in love with ice cubes, it's hilarious. We give her an ice cube and she goes nuts and bats it around the kitchen - it keeps her occupied for like 20 minutes, which is awesome.

But anyway. So, when I was like 4 years old and people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always tell them I wanted to be a fashion designer and a basketball player. There is so much wrong with that - like, how did I know what a designer was when I was that young? And there was no WNBA at that point, so I don't know where I would have been playing basketball at, but I digress. Anyway, I am doing neither of those things now, but I love living vicariously through all the hot hoes of Project Runway each season. I've been catching up during the marathon today and I looooove it. I even got one of my roomies hooked on the show because I watch it so freaking much. Today, I found a link that seems to be SPOILERLICIOUS. It appears to tell us who the final two designers are, and I think it could be right. Maybe it's just a mindfuck, though. Idk. More drama in them there Hills...
So for those of you who watch The Hills, let's discuss. I don't even really care about the whole "Speidi"/Lauren disagreements anymore because it's just boring at this point. I think it's kind of hilarious that Heidi's sister moved to L.A. because she doesn't really know how to act like she's being real yet (which Spencer and Heidi try to do - you can tell they plan some of their dialogue ahead of time). So it will be nice to see her grow as a reality show character, I suppose.
What I do think is interesting is the dynamic between Lauren, Lo, and Audrina. For those who don't watch, Lauren and Lo are best friends from way back, and Lauren and Audrina met when Lauren moved to L.A.; last season they shared an apartment. Well, this season, the 3 girls decided to all move in together - Lauren and Lo in the main house and Audrina in the guest house. It seemed like it would be a good move, with all 3 being close enough together, yet having enough space to be sane. It turns out that Lauren and Lo have gotten closer since moving in while Audrina feels like she and Lauren are growing apart. Audrina thinks that Lo is "super bitchy" and is the one that is making her friendship with Lauren turn sour. I think that's enough exposition to get you all caught up.
A few episodes ago, Lo decided to go talk to Audrina and see if they could make themselves be friends and Audrina said, "we're never going to be friends." Now, for someone who calls Lo "super bitchy," I think the pot needs to meet the kettle. Having already established that Audrina is actually the semi-bitchy one (i.e. talking behind Lo's back and refusing to even try to be her friend), I come to my next point. Audrina is super fucking boring. She never does/says anything funny, random, or interesting. All she does is talk about her life and she sounds confused a lot of the time. Lo, on the other hand, is my favorite character on the freaking Hills. Just last week, Lauren was suggesting they call "the bail bond store" to get information about jails and I was thinking "LOL, it's not a store" and then Lo said (tactfully), "umm, I don't think it's called a...store." She wasn't mean about it, she was just hilarious about it. I also respect Lo for being able to go talk to Audrina and try to figure things out and be friends. Lo is just honest and funny and that is why I love her and hate "Ceiling Eyes" (that's what Michael K calls Audrina... she does always appear to be looking up at the ceiling...).
One of my roommates, on the other hand, actually likes Audrina and hates Lo (but this is the same roommate who's favorite sextuplet on Jon & Kate + 8 is Hannah, so wtf?).

It's the day everyone born between 1980-1988 has been waiting for: the premiere of the NEW 90210! I was a total BH addict in my tween days - I had the dolls, the perfume, the bangs!

When I first heard that they were re-doing 90210, I thought they would ruin it just like they do with every Hollywood remake. When I heard that Kelly and BRENDA were coming back, I certifiably freaked out. Brenda hasn't been on screen since 1994. 1994, people!

Look for my review tomorrow. The show was not released early for critics, so it's either bad, or REALLY bad, which means it's good.

Open Up Your Eyes

I love voting. Like seriously, if I was a dude, I bet voting would give me a boner. If you think that statement is disturbing, maybe find a different blog to read... Anyway. I have been really excited to vote for Obama for a long time now...like wayyyyy before any of you. However, now I don't really know if I want to vote for him anymore (because he hasn't really changed his ideas too much from before he announced he would be running and I think he should have more plans by now) and was interested in hearing McCain's pick for Vice President. Well, that wily old fart decided to pick a WOMAN as his running mate... wooooow. This was an interesting strategic move and perhaps a good one, but I think McCain is relying too heavily on the fact that a large percentage of women wanted to vote for Hillary Clinton. The thing is, Sarah Palin is NOT Hillary Clinton. I don't think all the hoes in the world who supported Clinton are just automatically going to be like, "oooh that ticket has a vagine, I know who I'm voting for!" But I am majorly getting away from what I was actually going to write about.
I was going to tell you that there was a Desperate Housewives-esque rumored scandal involving Palin supposedly faking a pregnancy for her slutty daughter and passing the baby off as her own (pretending to be mama when she was really grandmama). So far, this doesn't look like it's true, BUT it has come out that her seventeen year old daughter is ACTUALLY pregnant now. Again, woooow. The reason that I think this is interesting is that Palin is one of those ignorant peeps who think that abstinence is the only bomb ass form of contraception. I mean, yes, abstinence is the only 100% effective birth control, but sometimes, oh sometimes, when you don't teach an alternative method, you end up with Juno Palin in your living room. What if Sarah-beara had simply told Bristol (yes, actually her name...) that it's better/safer/more meaningful if you wait, but if your skank instincts will not be silenced - use a condom or ask to be put on birth control. That's not so bad, is it? I think it's simply irresponsible for people to disallow knowledge and thereby allow children to get knocked up by children. It just makes me mad, yo.
So to all the parents out there who read this blog (umm crickets...), it would be nice if your kids listened to everything you said and didn't do sexy times when you didn't want them to, but it's probably better to teach them their options and remain open and supporting - that way they will come to you when they have questions or issues and they won't end up thinking that they're not pregnant just because they didn't see a stork.
On another note, I think it's whack that Palin accepted the VP nomination considering she knew her teenage daughter was pregnant - obviously the whole world was going to find about it since they heavily investigate candidates. What a wonderful mother.

I grew up loving, no, ADORING, Grease. Back in the day, I actually wore out one VHS copy from watching it so much. I overlooked its flaws (i.e. they literally throw around saran wrap for no reason during Greased Lightning) and embraced its triumphs, like the fabulous silver wigs during Beauty School Dropout. Because of Grease, I will always love musicals, no matter how tacky, melodramatic or unbelievable they may sometimes be.

With that being said, I HATED John Travolta in Hairspray. Every time I say that, people reply "But he was so good!" No, he really wasn't. I'm not by any means a Hairspray or John Waters mega-fan, but I stand firm in my belief that Scientology's #2 disciple (Tommy Girl being #1, of course) basically made a mockery of Divine's original character. He was supposed to play Tracy's mom, not some sort of over-the-top shebeast with a ridiculous and unbelievable voice. There's a difference between campy and cringe-worthy. It's like he thinks we're all just going to forget about Battlefield Earth because he put on a dress or two and pranced around.

Despite all of this, I'm on my way to owning all three of the newly-released Grease-inspired Barbies, as pictured. Only two more to go.

In conclusion, I would like to add that I LOVE: Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, Tom Cruise, Suri Cruise, Katie Holmes, John Travolta, Jason Lee, and Xenu. Please don't come after me.

Lex's Short and Spoiler-Free SATC Movie Review

Last night I was lucky enough to get tickets to a 7:30 sneak peek showing of the highly-anticipated Sex and the City Movie. After about 60 minutes of waiting in line, getting our purses searched for cameras, and laughing at those who "dressed the part" (seriously, we saw people in very fancy dresses and stilettos - have fun sitting for 2.5 hours in that), we finally were allowed to take our seats, and after NO COMMERCIALS AND ONLY ONE PREVIEW (that never happens!), the movie every girl (and gay guy) had been waiting for was about to begin.

So, how was it? As Carrie Bradshaw would say: "fabulous." It had its share of laughter, tears, fashion, and, of course, puns. Obviously I wouldn't take my boyfriend (any girl who drags her boyfriend along literally has NO FRIENDS) or my brother to see it, but fans of the show will love it. And normally I hate long movies, but the 2.5 hours went by very quickly. Finally, I felt that all of the ladies brought their A-game for the movie. I know that Carrie runs the ship, but all of the women really gave their best performances this time. Fans of the show: don't miss it.

(PS -And if you want spoilers, I support that, and will happily oblige. Do Carrie and Big finally walk down the aisle, or is that just a dream sequence? Is Charlotte finally pregnant? 1. The Sex and the City Movie! Here is my vision of what the future holds for Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. And by "my vision" I mean "a video I stole from Funny or Die."

Happy Belated Birthday, Bea Arthur! She turned 85 on Tuesday. My grandma is also 85, but she is not nearly as cool as Lady Bea. I'm going to hell.

Paper Chase

Oh Mtv, you have done it again. Another one of my Monday night gems is The Paper. From left to right in that picture (I think), is Dan, Adam, Cassea (back), Amanda Lorber (glasses), Alex, Trevor, and Giana.

Basically Amanda was named Editor-in-Chief by the newspaper advisor and all of those other bitches (except Cassea) are mad because they wanted it, too.

Amanda is clearly the star of The Paper (with Adam coming in a close second!). She is the Lauren Conrad of this show, serving as narrator and HBIC. I can't really explain Amanda to you, but just know this about her: she has inspirational quotes written on post-its hung on her wall, she talks to her dog frequently, and we see her doing yoga AND talking to her dog at the same time more than once. She's dramatic and different, and doesn't really seem to fit in with the majority of her paper staff.

The reason that this show is so great is the fact that it portrays bitchy teens as bitchy teens. Contrasting this with Laguna Beach's cast, which basically say "I don't like so-and-so, she's ugly," this show is SO MUCH BETTER. So far, I have seen all of the kids have a party and not invite Amanda, all of the kids go out to eat and not invite Amanda and then call her and passive aggressively insult her, and create a Wii character for the boxing game and then fight her... among other things. Call me crazy, but this seems to me to be more of a representation of how actual high schoolers behave...at least the ones that I know. This is a show about the super involved kids, which are fundamentally different than rich kids who don't do anything for school because they don't have to.

I feel slightly conflicted while watching the show because I see how mean these kids are being to Amanda behind her back, yet none of them (except drama queen Adam) will confront her about things to her face. On one level, I think their behavior is mean and wrong, and on another level I think it's hilarious and close to how I behaved in high school. I was on the newspaper staff and didn't like our editor-in-chief, and made her cry one day just because I didn't like her...I probably would do things differently if I had to do it over, but that's just what high school kids do... at least the high school kids I was hanging out with.

So to bottom line it: this show is awesome. You get to see cat fights, drama, and genuine teenage behavior. You might feel bad for Amanda, but I'm willing to bet she'll do fine once she gets out of high school and into some wonderful journalism program at the college of her choice.

Mtv's The Paper airs Mondays at 10:30 (after The Hills).

The Hills are Alive?

Hello to any readers that we may have left... which is probably none. My co-author doesn't even read this blog anymore. Sadness. Well, I am currently jobless, and in about a week if I don't have a job, I'm heading to McDonald's to take your order. In the meantime, I'm going to try to update Soop a lot so we can get our audience back.

Allow me to chat about The Hills. This show is addicting, yet so boring and lame at the same time. I watch the damn thing every week and I DON'T KNOW WHY. It's perplexing. Anyway, for those of you who have more brain cells than I do, here's a recap of the most major drama that happened over the past three and a half seasons: Lauren and Heidi moved to The Hills to go to school and start their careers. They dated guys, shared secrets, and had fun together. Pretty soon, Sir Douche-a-Lot (Spencer Pratt) sought out Heidi and began to date her so that he could be on the show. He began pitting Heidi against Lauren at every turn and Lauren was concerned that this crazy d-bag was messing with her friend. Heidi decided to move in with Douchey and around this time is when the trouble began. SOMEONE (i.e. at least Spencer, if not Spencer and Heidi) decided to spread a rumor that Lauren had a sex tape with Jason Wahler (also from Laguna Beach). Maybe she has said sex tape, maybe she doesn't, but telling everyone about it is not something that your friends should generally do. Heidi threw a housewarming party and invited Lauren, Lauren didn't show. Lauren later confronted Heidi at a nightclub and made it clear that she didn't want to be friends anymore.

I think I have gotten all of you non-Hills watching people up to speed.

Now, whatever whatever, it's reality television, and we obviously don't know exactly what happened, but lately I have been hearing that Lauren needs to just move on (apparently she didn't want Heidi and D'bag at the finale after party http://perezhilton.com/2008-05-13-she-did-it-again-4). Ryan Secrest called her "unprofessional" on his radio show (which I uhhh accidentally listened to online for 20 minutes). Maybe I'm just a stubborn ho, but if I were Lauren, I don't think I would be so quick to move on either. People are essentially suggesting that you should let someone close to you fuck with you and then if you remember it for too long, you're being unreasonable. I respectfully disagree - especially seeing as Heidi and D just went on Tyra within the past two weeks to rehash all their issues with Lauren.

So anyway, that's my piece on The Hills. If Lauren Conrad wants to hate on Speidi for the rest of her life - go for it. Forgiveness is overrated, and I'm sooper serial about that.

Okay, I love you guys for serious... uh for serial. Please start reading again, I promise we'll give you some quality updates in the near future... and leave comments!

In honor of what would have been his 80th birthday, Mr. McFeely (who still looks damn good for his age) is PERSONALLY requesting that we all zip up ourselves up in some sweaters on Thursday, March 20th. So, unless you're a doctor, a stripper, or any other occupation that would hinder you from getting your sweater on, you owe this to Mr. Rogers. I'm not kidding.

Hello, loyal readers (LOL). Long time no blog. I have been busy with work and travels, and work travels. I'm sorry I abandoned you. Please forgive me.

I have many awesome things I want to blog about when I have a little more time. I promise they will be amazing posts.

In the meantime, I would like to metion that recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Funny or Die comedy tour. It featured many awesome things: Will Ferrell riding a jazzy, Will Ferrell fighting ninjas, a Ron Burgundy appearance, several crazed fans dressed as Buddy the Elf, and so on. However, the MOST awesome thing about the show was the fact that WILL ARNETT WAS THE GUEST ANNOUNCER. Yes, I saw illusionist GOB Bluth in the flesh. I can die happy.

The second best thing about the show was that it introduced me to a new LOL-worthy comedian named Zach Galifianakis. Apparently I'm the last person on earth to not hear of him and/or think he's funny, but bear with me. He did a lot of "That's So Raven" jokes, which makes him A-OK in my book. Enjoy some of his humor below. Yes, I realize some of the delivery is a borderline Mitch Hedberg (RIP) impression, but it's still funny.

Omg, I am freaking bored with all that's going on with the entertainment world at the moment. Britney is still a mess, and so is Amy Winehouse. Paris Hilton's brother followed in her footsteps and got a DUI this morning. He's only 18, so SOOPERSERIAL is suggesting we all keep our eyes out for future shenanigans from that one. The Grammy's occurred. Not that exciting. THE WRITER'S STRIKE IS OVER!!! That's amazing :)

I have a new obsession...the t.v. show LOST. If anyone wants to talk theories, I'm up for it (no spoilers!)

Nip/Tuck tonight was insaaaaane. Maybe I'll do a Nip/Tuck blog sometime devoted to the ridiculousness that show has amounted to.

SOOPERSERIAL wishes to congratulate a non-reader of ours, my friend Brooke, who just found out today that she is going to have a girl baby! I am going to tell her she has to read the blog from now on since I gave her this nice shout-out.

Toxic Spears

Right now our beloved Brit Brit is in the hospital against her will. I hope she ends up getting some help and can turn back to the Britney we know and love. Lots of people are bickering with each other to be in control of her medical decisions, such as Osama "Sam" Lufti and her parents... honestly, I won't be surprised if Adnan and Kev get in on the "control Britney's life" game soon. Here is what I think needs to be done to "fix" Brit:

1. Put someone in charge of her that has nothing to gain from her. She has been her parents' cash cow for her whole life, Osama is her own personal Howard K. Stern, Adnan has sold photos of them, and Kevin is suing the shit out of her. I'm thinking we should let Brangelina adopt her. They are humanitarians, so they would love to help her, and they're always looking for new kids. They are already rich and famous, so they don't need Brit for any publicity.

2. Keep her out of the public eye for 6 months of so. During this time she can break her addictions to drugs and fraps (among other things) and work on getting back into shape for her music career (which can SO be resurrected, I have faith!). During this time, contact with her parents and her 3 leeching men will be prohibited as well.

3. During her time of being a Brangelina child and being in hiding, she can also work on writing her memoir. This will make her at least appear to be someone intelligent (she's obviously going to need a ghost writer, but people will ignore that). After her 6 months are over and her book is written, she can go on a book tour and give interviews out the wazoo. I think by then she will be able to tell who she should kick out of her life and who she should keep.

Does anyone know Brit? Tell her my plan and that I'm willing to do whatever I can to help!

Long Time No Write.

So much has happened since we did a last post. I'll run down some things for you:
1. Tom Cruise's crazy scientology video was leaked. He is playing basically the same character as he was in Magnolia (which is one of my favorite movies, by the way - P.T. Anderson is amazing!).
2. Britney - not much has really changed. Still crazy, now with some more colorful characters in her posse.

3. Heath Ledger died. That was sad and unexpected. I don't really have anything to say about it other than that.

4. Nicole Richie and Xtina had their babies. Harlow and Max. Maybe they can get married one day.

I think those were the big things.

This post from The Consumerist struck a chord with me. A 21-year-old boy from Illinois just wanted to buy himself a nice Xbox game at a local Best Buy. He took his younger brother with him, the Best Buy employees accused him of "illegally" buying an "M" for Mature game for a minor. He wasn't buying it for his brother; he was buying it for himself, and the last time I checked, the suggested video game rating system is not enforceable by law. Also, Best Buy was making a pretty penny off this stupid game, so why make an issue of it? Get a life, Best Buy. I hate that place anyway but I'll save that particular rant for a different time.

Completely unrelated, but congrats to Pittsburgh-area native Christina Aguilera on the birth of her baby boy. May he enjoy many "M" for Mature video games in his lifetime, and may he always remain in the custody of both his parents, unlike a certain other Mouseketeer alumni.

As I'm sure everyone knows, our beloved Britney Spears was rushed to the hospital last night following a three-hour stand off with the cops after refusing to return her children to KFed at the scheduled time. She will be given a psychiatric evaluation (FINALLY) and is in a "special needs unit" after apparently trying to kill herself. You can click here for a timeline of events, courtesy of Us Magazine.

Get better, Britney! I don't know who is to blame, but all I know is that I want the old Britney back. Hang in there - for yourself and your kids. My brother and I have developed a truly sad habit of watching amateur YouTube videos of theme park rides and attractions. I have a sibling. Sometimes we are rivals. When this happens, it is called "sibling rivalry." This doesn't just affect us regular kin, it affects famous kin, too.
There was once a time when Jessica Simpson seemed on top of the world, like nothing could go wrong in her life. Her little sister Ashlee was sort of an uglier, less talented, lip synching, retarded jigging version of Jessica. So, Ashlee did what any normal sibling would do and got completely hottified through the miracle of plastic surgery. Now, Ashlee has a long term boyfriend and a lucrative contract with Victoria's Secret and Jessica has some straight-to-DVD movies and quite a number of failed relationships. Good for Ashlee.
It follows logically that Britney Spears's sister would want to get in on the action. Let's list some of Britney's recent achievements:
1. Divorced
2. Lost custody of children
3. Shaved head
4. Abysmal performance on VMAs
5. Attacked paparazzi with umbrella (ella, ella, eh)
6. Hangs out with a guy named Osama
7. Needed extreme photoshopping in music videos
8. Rountinely missed court dates
9. Rehab
10. Drank her weight in Starbucks fraps
...and those are just off the top of my head.

Today, I read something about Britney that actually shocked me for once: that her 16 year old sister is pregnant! WTF?! My friends and I just watched whatever show she is on the other day, commenting how she looks exactly like Britney, BUT BETTER BEHAVED. Needless to say, we spoke too soon.

Her boyfriend is 19 years old, which troubles me a bit. I looked it up, and according to this site, if they were banging in Louisiana (her home state), then it's all good, but if they were doing the horizontal tango in Cali (my guess is this is where she works), then her bf was raping her the whole time. You say potato, I say bastard child of rape.

Tailor Made for the HBIC

Last night was the I Love New York 2 finale, and Tailor Made got the girl. I'm positive it was that slap from Sister Patterson that gave him the confidence he needed to win NY's heart. I can't stop looking at that picture and LOLing. I have problems.

Anyway, NY just did an interview with Vh1.com where she says that she and Tailor Made have been secretly LIVING TOGETHER since the show ended. Ballsy! Congrats to the happy couple - I can't wait for the shit to hit the fan at the reunion show.

Buddha or Tailor Made?

Click here if you want to know who wins I Love New York 2 a day early. Of course I clicked it, but I don't want to ruin the surprise for those of you who actually like surprises. There are a few clips from the show, including some uncensored stuff which borders on disturbing. I have heard that New York is still in a relationship with the winner, so I don't think we will be seeing a season 3 anytime soon.

Kind of makes me sad - I genuinely have love for New York. She is the true HBIC. I can't think of anyone who else would seriously say she doesn't trust parrots because they "can't speak the English diction" or refer to a huuuge python as "plus-sized." Maybe they will get their own spin-off show, which would be awesome. The Flavor of Love series and its many spawns always receives huge ratings (consistently averaging about 4 million viewers a week and always in the top 10 weekly cable shows) for Vh1, so it is possible.

I, much like Lauren, now probably know what Amy Winehouse feels like every day of her life. Thursday night I came down with the flu out of NOWHERE and have been out of commission for the past few days. It was bound to happen because two weeks ago at Costco when they were advertising $20 flu shots I said "I haven't had the flu since I was like, FIVE!" So that's karma for you.

Moving on to something much more important than my health or lack thereof: Alvin and the Chipmunks. These little fuzzy rodents have been a beloved staple in my life ever since I can remember. I have so many fond memories of them: the Saturday morning TV show, collecting the toys, going to see The Chipmunk Adventure, and so on. This Friday, they are about to be (presumably) desecrated by people eager to make a quick buck off their innocent charm with the new feature film, cleverly titled Alvin and the Chipmunks. Please view exhibit A below:
UGHHHH. One of the greatest things about the Chipmunks is that they are TIMELESS. THEY NEVER CHANGE. So, what in God's name are they trying to do with this new movie? Make them "thugs?" I mean, honestly, it's just embarrassing. The Chipmunks don't have to try so hard to be "cool" - they already are cool. Well, they were until now.

Their famous "Christmas Song" won THREE Grammy Awards. Let's see the new Thugmunks try to top that.

Stacy Ann Ferguson is one of my favorite people in this world; I have loved her since her early days in the Black Eyed Peas. I heard her sing live on Letterman or Leno one time and my love was slightly disturbed because she must have A LOT of help in the studio to make her sound the way she does on the radio and such. Since I've apparently only been interested in writing about female singers lately, I figured I would show Fergie some love. To start this love fest, I looked to my soulmate, Wikipedia and learned the following, perhaps lesser known, facts:

1. Fergie is an Aries (3/27/1975...which makes her exactly 9 years older than Lex).
2. She is Mexican and Native American.
3. She was raised Catholic.
4. Fergie was a girl scout.
5. She used to <3 crystal meth.
6. She peed herself on stage one time and was totally cool with it (see pic).

The following video is a good example of the essence of Fergie. When she starts out singing, she sounds like crap, then she somehow manages to pull it together, and then ends the performance by distracting you from her singing. It's a decent performance of a great song. Check it out here:
